Simon Brown Career

Professional boxing career

Brown began his career in 1982 at the age of 19 and went on a string of 21 victories before losing a split decision to Marlon Starling for the USBA welterweight title in 1985. Simon defeated Shawn O'Sullivan, an undefeated former Olympian, for a shot at Tyrone Trice's vacant IBF welterweight crown. Brown won via TKO in the 14th round and went on to successfully defend his title nine times, including one with Lineal/WBC welterweight champion Maurice Blocker, who took the top prize by TKO in the 10th. In his next fight against James McGirt, Brown lost his belts.

Brown came back to light-middleweight in 1993 and defeated Terry Norris via a dramatic 4th round KO to win the WBC light-middleweight championship in a battle that Ring Magazine named Upset of the Year. Brown lost a rematch and the WBC championship to Norris after a tumultuous defense of the WBC against Troy Waters in May 1994.

Brown defeated IBF light-middleweight champion Vincent Pettway in 1995. Brown was knocked down in round one by a Pettway right hand, and was knocked down by a Pettway right hand in round three. Brown opened low in round five and then went straight for Pettway before losing the ropes. The referee ruled a knockdown after seeing the low blow. Brown was knocked out by a Pettway left hook in round six. When not lying on his back unconscious, Brown continued to punch punches.

Brown lost a close ten round decision to former WBA welterweight champion Aaron Davis in his next fight.

Brown defeated undefeated WBO middleweight champion Lonnie Bradley in August 1996, a unanimous decision. Brown then met IBF middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins in January 1998, but was disqualified by TKO in round six. Brown's last title shot was supposed to be taken.

He went on a five-fight losing streak starting with losses to Hopkins in 2000, including defeats to Olympian David Reid and Omar Sheika, and then resigned after the loss to Sheika.

Inside the Gordon Ramsay pub where squatters took over for 10 days: How £13m London venue now sits empty again after '£7,000 clean-up' and furious legal row with group who turned the building into a cafe and arts space

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 22, 2024
Squatters who took over a Gordon Ramsay pub in London last week have all left the building, a representative for the celebrity chef said. The group shut themselves in the York & Albany near Regent's Park, north London, on April 13 for ten days. They boarded up the windows, locking the doors and putting up a 'legal warning' defending their takeover. Locksmiths and bailiffs arrived at the property around 5am on Monday to change the locks and secure the venue, the Evening Standard reported. A representative for Mr Ramsay said the squatters have now all left the building and after a £7,000 clean-up the building once again stands empty.

Gordon Ramsay bags High Court order to get rid of shameless anarchists who are squatting in TV chef's £13million London pub - after they hired a lawyer to try and 'defend their rights'

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 18, 2024
A Gordon Ramsay company has secured a High Court order to remove squatters who have occupied the TV chef's £13million London pub. A group of anarchists locked themselves inside the Grade II-listed York & Albany hotel and gastropub situated just outside Regent's Park last week. They set up a now closed 'autonomous cafe' inside the building, called Camden Art Cafe, pledging to serve free food to the local community. The pub and boutique hotel was run by Ramsay - but the chef was reportedly in the midst of renegotiating the lease and launched legal proceedings against the group. Lawyers for Gordon Ramsay Holdings International Limited (GRHI) told a judge it had an 'immediate right to possession' of the pub and asked for an order to retake the property amid a 'risk of public disturbance'. Judge Simon Brown granted the order at a short hearing in London. The invaders told reporters yesterday how they had recruited their own lawyers 'to defend their rights' for the High Court hearing on Thursday, but none of the group attended and they were not represented by a lawyer.
