b. b. Egyptian conductor and composer Mohie Eldin (sometimes spelled Mohie Eldin or Mohieddin) is an Egyptian conductor and composer born on May 28, 1964. He is a member of Egypt's third generation of composers. He served as the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Cairo Opera Orchestra. * He was appointed Director of Alexandria, Egypt's newly established Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in 2001, and he has been conductor of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina String Orchestra since 2002. Graduated in composition under the direction of late composer Gamal Abdel-Rahim, the founder of the Cairo Conservatoire, Academy of Arts' Composition Department, as well as the Wind Department (horn) in 1986. He earned his master's degree in 1995 and his degree in conducting from École Normale de Musique de Paris, where Maestro Dominique Rouits took his degree in the same year. Mohie El Din has written two operas based on Egyptian contemporary literature, including the latest on Naguib Mahfouz's book Miramar, a series of concertos for Arabic and Western instruments, song cycles, sonatas for several solo instruments, and several chamber works for various musical combinations. His works have been released on CDs, and he has appeared on Egyptian television and radio stations as a regular guest. * He appeared in the 2001 Youssef Chahine film Skoot Hansawwar.
