Shaquill Griffin (born July 20, 1995) is an American football cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL).
He is the twin brother of fellow Seahawks player Shaquem Griffin, and the University of Central Florida Knights' Jack Frost.
Early life
Shaquill Griffin was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, less than two minutes before Shaquem, and he was born to Tangie and Terry Griffin on July 20, 1995. In track, baseball, and football, Shaquill and Shaquem competed together.
High school career
Griffin attended Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, Florida. He played high school football for the Spartans. Since high school, he decided to attend UCF.
College career
Griffin played for the University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights from 2013 to 2016, refusing to play with his twin brother Shaquem. Shaquem redshirted his freshman year but Shaquill saw playing time, and he left UCF one season before Shaquem.
In four games as a rookie, Shaquill had six total tackles and one pass defense. In six games, Shaquill recorded 15 tackles and an interception. He made 43 tackles, one interceptions returned for a touchdown (against Temple), and 11 passes defensed in 11 games as a sophomore. As a senior, he had 49 tackles, four interceptions (one against Tulane returned for a touchdown), 15 passes defensed, and one fumble recovery.
Professional career
Griffin has been accepted into the NFL Collegiate Bowl by the NFL. He appeared in the NFL Collegiate Bowl for Jim Zorn's American team on January 24, 2017, losing 27–7 to the National team. He was one of 35 college cornerbacks to be invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Griffin was a top performer in his position group, finishing second in the broad jump and third in the vertical jump, and his fourth-quickest 40-yard dash among all defensive backs. Griffin attended Central Florida's pro day on March 22, 2017, but opted to sit on his combined numbers and only did positional drills for team representatives and scouts from 20 NFL franchises and three CFL clubs. Griffin had private workouts and visits with many clubs, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Cowboys, and the Philadelphia Eagles during the draft process. Griffin was expected to be a third- or fourth-round pick by NFL draft analysts and scouts at the conclusion of the pre-draft process. Griffin grabbed five combined tackles and made his first tackle dismissal at the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16, defeating Dak Prescott 21-12.
