Sergio Rodríguez Career

Professional career

Rodrez was selected to compete against the best high school players at the Nike Hoop Summit, which is located in the United States, prior to joining the Portland Trail Blazers. Rodrez played competitive basketball at the senior club level for Estudiantes of the Spanish League, in which he competed in a final against FC Barcelona in the 2003–05 season and was named ACB Rising Star Award for the 2004–05 season.

Rodrez was drafted with the 27th pick in the first round by the Phoenix Suns in the 2006 NBA draft (and later that day, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for cash considerations). On July 20, 2006, it was announced that the Trail Blazers had negotiated a buyout with his Spanish League team Estudiantes, and that he had signed him to a NBA rookie-scale deal.

He didn't get much playing time during his time at Portland, mostly as back-up point-guard. He was mocked by Jartt Jack or Steve Blake, who were not favored by coach Nate McMillan. He and fellow Spaniard Rudy Fernández had a chemistry on the court.

Rodrn did not get along with McMillan, who had a reputation as a low-risk point guard throughout his playing career. McMillan was more "unjust" toward him, but McMillan continued to have opportunities after the arrival of highly awaited prospect Jerryd Bayless. McMillan argued that Rodrs participation in the NBA had begun "too young," despite the fact that he was still undeveloped as a player.

Rodr departed along with the 37th pick in the 2009 NBA draft and cash considerations on June 25, 2009, to the Sacramento Kings for the 31st pick in the 2009 NBA draft. In 39 games for the Kings, he averaged 6 points and 3.1 assists per game.

Rodr's and Tracy McGrady were traded to the New York Knicks in a three-team trade agreement on February 18, 2010. He appeared in 27 games for the Knicks, averaging 7.4 points and 3.4 assists per game.

Rodrez joined Real Madrid in Spain on July 5, 2010, after four seasons in the NBA. In July 2012, he signed a two-year deal with Real Madrid, extending his deal until the 2014-2015 season.

On January 9, 2014, he signed a Real Madrid contract, keeping in the club until 2020. He was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team of the EuroLeague in May 2014 alongside his colleague Rudy Fernández. Despite not being in any game prior to the 2014 Final Four, he was named the EuroLeague MVP of the season after averaging 14 points, 4.9 assists, and 2 rebounds per game.

Real Madrid claimed the EuroLeague in 2014–15 after defeating Olympiacos by a score of 78–59 in the 2015 finals game. Real Madrid won the Spanish League championship last season after a 3–0 sweep in the Spanish League's last series against Barcelona. Real Madrid took the triple crown with a title victory.

Rodre Wilson signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on July 13, 2016. In a 103-97 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, he made his 76ers debut in their season opener on October 26th. After playing 68 games and starting a career-high 30 games for the franchise, Rodriguez was ruled out for the final three games of the season due to knee soreness.

Rodrz signed with CSKA Moscow on July 17, 2017. He was named in May 2018 as the All-EuroLeague Second Team for the 2017-18 season.

Rodriguez joined Pallacanestro Olimpia Milano, an Italian basketball team, on July 12, 2019. Rodriguez scored 21 points and 4 assists in a 75-53 victory over the De' Longhi Treviso in his first game with Milano. Rodriguez departed from the Italian club after three seasons, having also served as the team's captain, on July 2, 2022.

Rodriguez returned to Real Madrid on a one-year contract on July 18, 2022.

National team career

Rodrez, who was considered the MVP of the 2004 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship in Zaragoza, Spain, after competing with the Spain national junior team, was considered one of the best European prospects of his youth. He led the host Spanish team to the tournament's gold medal. He averaged 19 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, 8.4 assists per game, and 2.1 steals per game in the eight games of the tournament.

Rodrez earned the gold medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championships while competing with the senior men's Spain national team in August 2006. At the EuroBasket 2007, he earned his silver medal with Spain's senior national team. He earned a silver medal at the Summer Olympics in London in 2012. In 2016, he received a bronze medal at the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Rodrz has decided against attending the 2019 World Cup due to a need to rest. He was named up by Sergio Scariolo for the 2020 Summer Olympics, which were held in 2021.
