Life
Juan Pablo Escobar Henao, his mother and sister Manuela Escobar first arrived in Mozambique and then migrated on tourist visas to Argentina, where they eventually became citizens in exile from Colombia. Juan Pablo took the name "Sebastián Marroqun" from the telephone book and used it as his new name because he needed a new identity, according to a Skavlan interview, airlines refused to sell to him under the Escobar name.
Although he and his family still profit from the rights to Pablo Escobar's name and image (such as selling clothing bearing his name for extra income), and have attempted three times (unsuccessfully) to register Escobar's name as a brand, Marroquinho says he wants not to be associated with his father, and has decided to distance himself from the Medelln Cartel and the Colombian drug trade, although he is also determined to distance himself from the Medell
Marroqun earned a degree in architecture from college. He now lives in Palermo Soho, Argentina, with his wife and son, and works as an architect. He has since worked with some of his father's victims. (See Sins of My Father, the 2009 film).
Marroqun has returned to Colombia twice for visits: to pay his respects at his father's grave and for the documentary's premiere. He was not permitted to visit Hacienda Nápoles, the Colombian government's confiscated property after Escobar's death and now operated by the municipality of Puerto Triunfo as a public park, campground, and museum of Escobar's crimes.
