Ryan Clinkunbroomer, a Los Angeles sheriff's deputy, was killed in a'targeted' ambush in his patrol car just days after being engaged. The announcement came after authorities gave a $250,000 reward for a suspect. Sheriff Robert Luna said a Clinkunbroomer, 30, died in the hospital after being discovered unconscious while on duty around 6 p.m. on Saturday in Palmdale, Calif. Luna said that the shooting was a 'targeted assault,' but that the motives, as well as the department in general, was vague, since the shooter was not identified.

About half of the homeless were in shelters, crashing with friends or relatives, or had other temporary housing. The remainder of the population were 'unsheltered,' meaning sleeping in cars, on the streets, or in derelict buildings. California is by far the worst affected. About a third of all homeless people in the United States, and Los Angeles, San Jose, Oakland, and other Golden State cities have some of the country's largest numbers of unsheltered residents.
