Sarah Lancaster, who was holidaying in Nicaragua, was bitten by a cat in her hostel, potentially exposing rabies, which can cause a 98 percent mortality rate if not immediately treated. Despite her friend washing the wound with water, no one in the hostel was able to inform Ms Lancaster that the animal was vaccinated against rabies. Ms Lancaster, who was worried she had caught the deadly disease, reached out to Australian health officials, who advised her not to seek medical attention.
