Samuel Parrilla Monges (June 12, 1943 – February 9, 1994) was a Puerto Rican professional baseball left fielder and pinch hitter who competed in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies.
He played in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) from 1963 to 1972. Lana Parrilla, one of his children's, is a performer.
Minor league career
After graduating from John Jay Educational Campus (Brooklyn) in 1961, Parrilla was first signed by the Cleveland Indians as an undrafted free agent in 1963. He played in the minor leagues from 1972 to 1972, batting.282 with 104 home runs, 165 doubles, and 36 triples in 1,039 games.
In 95 games for the Raleigh-Durham Phillies, it was perhaps his best season since 1969, when he hit.383 with 28 home runs and 85 RBI (all career highs). It was the first of three seasons in which he would reach.330 or higher.
He spent his time with the Indians, New York Phillies, and Baltimore Orioles.
