Samuel Parrilla Monges (June 12, 1943 – February 9, 1994) was a Puerto Rican professional baseball left fielder and pinch hitter who competed in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies.

He played in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) from 1963 to 1972. Lana Parrilla, one of his children's, is a performer.

Sam Parrilla Career

Minor league career

After graduating from John Jay Educational Campus (Brooklyn) in 1961, Parrilla was first signed by the Cleveland Indians as an undrafted free agent in 1963. He played in the minor leagues from 1972 to 1972, batting.282 with 104 home runs, 165 doubles, and 36 triples in 1,039 games.

In 95 games for the Raleigh-Durham Phillies, it was perhaps his best season since 1969, when he hit.383 with 28 home runs and 85 RBI (all career highs). It was the first of three seasons in which he would reach.330 or higher.

He spent his time with the Indians, New York Phillies, and Baltimore Orioles.

Major league career

Before the 1969 season, Parrilla was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies.

He made his major league debut on April 11, 1970, and played his last big league game on May 11 of that year. He had two hits in 16 at-bats for a.125 batting average in 11 games. He hit San Francisco Giants pitcher Mike McCormick on May 3 for his first pitch against the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Claude Osteen on May 3, his second hit - a double - off of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Claude Osteen.

On December 15, 1970, Roger Freed was traded from the Phillies to the Orioles alongside Grant Jackson and Jim Hutto.
