Sage Karam Career

Racing career

Karam was born in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, and he grew up there. In his youth, he raced go-karts at Oakland Valley Race Park in Cuddebackville, New York.

Karam was part of the U.S. F2000 National Championship for Andretti Autosport in the 2010 season after karting. In all but one race and dominated the championship, Karam won nine of twelve races and pole. Karam received a prize package worth US$350,000 that allowed him to participate in the Star Mazda Championship in 2011 again with Andretti Autosport, as part of the Road to Indy project and the Mazdaspeed development ladder. Karam also placed fifth in points in back-to-back oval races at the Milwaukee Mile and Iowa Speedway, finishing fifth in points and second in rookie of the year awards. In 2012, he returned to the team and series and finished third in points after three races.

In 2013, he rode up the Road to Indy ladder to the Firestone Indy Lights series with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. Karam won the Indy Lights crown last year, becoming the eighth rookie to win the series championship.

In 2014, Karam was signed by Chip Ganassi Racing to compete in a variety of endurance sportscar races in the United SportsCar Championship. He rode in the 24 Hours of Daytona, taking the No. 446. In the No. 1.0, you will travel in the No. 01 car with Scott Pruett, Memo Rojas, and Jamie McMurray. Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan, two of IndyCar drivers, are next to him.

Sage lost engine trouble and crashed early in the Daytona 24 Hours, ending early.

Karam made his 12 Hours of Sebring debut a memorable one by winning the No. 66. In his first lap, the 02 car went from third place to the lead in his first lap and then extended his lead until the end of his driving career. Karam was behind the wheel for his second stint with the car and raced to the top before handing over to Dixon, who was later disqualified from the race for sixth place.

When first Rojas was sent hard into the wall by a slower GT vehicle, things went awry quickly for the trio. They returned to the track several laps earlier, but Pruett was only forett to suffer similar consequences after being knocked into the ground by a sports prototype.

Karam made his first appearance of the season on the Brickyard Grand Prix with Pruett in the 01 car, with Rojas sidelined due to back pain. As several cars arrived together at the beginning, starting sixth, he skillfully avoided a major clash. The 01 team remained in the top-five and lead 11 laps before finishing in second place and second place in a podium finish.

Karam served as a test pilot for 3GT Racing's Lexus RC F GT3 in 2016. He appeared at the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for the company's sponsored team, where his best class result was fifth at Mosport Park.

Ganassi has won a seat in the 2014 Indianapolis 500 with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, the first IndyCar race since the previous "500." Karam qualified 31st but finished ninth in a thrilling race, the second-highest-finishing rookie.

Karam split the driving duties for the Chip Ganassi Racing No. During the 2015 IndyCar Series season. Sebastián Saavedra, an 8-year-old Dallara, who ran four races on a tight budget, was the eighth Dallara with Sebastián Saavedra. Even as his season started slowly, he placed in the lowest third of the field in his first three road/street courses events of the season, proving to be a quick study on the ovals. He was on the first day of practice and remained among the top cars in successive sessions at Indianapolis, and stayed at the top of the speed charts. During post-qualifying practice and his seventh fastest on Carb Day, he was on top of the speed charts again. After being compelled to place in the 2015 Indianapolis 500 with a 32nd-place finish, considered a dark-horse favorite on race day, it was all for naught. Karam was on pole with 90 seconds remaining in qualifying when IndyCar called off the session due to track conditions. Karam finished 3rd at the 2015 Iowa Corn 300 at Iowa Speedway in July, despite his 3rd place qualifying effort and leading 5 laps on his way to a 5th place finish and his best finish at Fontana.

Karam was leading with 21 laps remaining at Pocono Raceway for the 2015 ABC Supply 500, losing control exiting turn 1, destroying his Chip Ganassi number 8 Dallara as it spun and crashed hard against the wall in his Pennsylvania homecoming. In a critical situation, debris strewn from Karam's disintegrating vehicle made contact with fellow competitor Justin Wilson's helmet, throwing him into the infield wall, requiring an ambulance transfer to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, where Wilson lay comatose. Wilson died as a result of his injury on August 24, 2015.

Karam finished the 2015 IndyCar season in 20th in points, behind rival Gabby Chaves for 2015 rookie of the year awards. Karam's place in the Chip Ganassi stable piloting the number 8 Dallara was purchased by Max Chilton for the 2016 season.

Dreyer & Reinbold have signed Karam for the Indianapolis 500, first with Havoline and Gas Monkey Garage as sponsors, as part of a one-race deal for 2016. Karam crashed into the top ten on lap 94, moving into Townsend Bell in Turn One, steadily rising from his 23rd qualifying slot on grid to the top ten.

Dreyer & Reinbold, a one-race deal, have signed Karam to drive the Mecum Auctions No. 2. The 2017 Indianapolis 500 was the Dallara-Chevrolet. Karam retired his Mecum Auctions Dreyer & Reinbold entry at the 275-mile juncture, having improved from his 21st qualifying slot to the top ten. He rejoined the team again in 2018, but the car was destroyed on lap 154.

In the 2019 Indianapolis 500, he rode for Dreyer & Reinbold once more. He began 31st and ended 19th in 19th. Karam would drive for Carlin in the Honda Indy Toronto on July 2, 2019.

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing announced on January 7, 2020, that they would be expanding their race calendar to at least four races with Karam leading them. The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, GMR Grand Prix, 2020 Indianapolis 500, and Honda Indy Toronto are among the races on the list. The team was out of contention after a pit accident in the Indy 500.

Karam qualified in the 11th and final row of the Indy 500 on May 23, 2021, with Will Power of Australia and Simona de Silvestro of Switzerland as the final three drivers. He earned his seventh position, his highest Indy 500 finish ever.

Karam was signed by Dreyer & Reinbold Racing on a five-race deal for the 2019 Americas Rallycross Championship season. He did a good job, finishing second rather than second, and winning the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. In 2021, he competed in Nitro Rallycross with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. He came in second place in the championship standings, winning five titles and seven podiums.

Karam will make his NASCAR debut in the No. 2021 on July 26, 2021. Jordan Anderson Racing in the Xfinity Series' Pennzoil 150 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course reached his 31. JAR's schedule was eventually expanded to include the Xfinity races at Bristol Motor Speedway and the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, as well as the Camping World Truck Series competition at Martinsville Speedway.

In 2022, Karam signed with Alpha Prime Racing for a part-time Xfinity schedule. On Road America, Karam had an on-road scuffle with Noah Gragson, resulting in Gragson intentionally spinning out Karam and causing a 13-car pileup on lap 25. For the incident, Gragson was fined US$35,000 and docked 30 drivers and owner points.
