Virgil van Dijk spotted celebrating Ryan Gravenberch's goal against Fulham before the midfielder had even taken his shot in Liverpool's win at Craven Cottage

Gravenberch had received the ball from Harvey Elliott on the edge of the box and after shifting it to his right boot struck a powerful effort beyond Bernd Leno. Eagle-eyed punters also kept a close watch on Reds captain Van Dijk during the build-up, however, with the centre back seemingly celebrating too early. But to the surprise of many around the stadium, Gravenberch's fine effort hurtled into the net, handing Liverpool the lead in their must-win game in the capital. Footage showed Van Dijk raising his arms aloft as Gravenberch was teed up by Elliott, showcasing his confidence his Holland team-mate would fire home.

Ryan Gravenberch showed what a fine midfielder he can become for Liverpool after dazzling in win over Fulham... despite a difficult first year, the Dutchman can have a big future at Anfield, writes LEWIS STEELE

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 22, 2024
LEWIS STEELE AT CRAVEN COTTAGE: Liverpool saw something in Ryan Gravenberch that Bayern Munich did not. After tracking the Dutchman for several seasons, dating back to before his failed stint in Bavaria, the Reds knew he could be a pivotal member of their midfield. Sadly for Liverpool fans, they have not had much of a window into just why the recruitment team thought he would be a star player. Save for glimpses here and there, it's been a difficult first year in England for Gravenberch. But Sunday's performance against Fulham showed an example of what a fine midfielder he can become - and already might be if given chances to shine. He scored an important goal, Liverpool's first from open play after four games without one, with a curling side-footed finish.

Jose Mourinho attends Fulham's defeat to Liverpool, leading to fan speculation The Special One could replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer

Jose Mourinho was spotted in the crowd at Craven Cottage watching Liverpool's 3-1 win over Fulham on Sunday afternoon.  Trent Alexander-Arnold's superb free-kick opened the scoring, and while Timothy Castagne got an equaliser before half-time, Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota secured the win for the visitors. The Special One, who has had Premier League management stints with Chelsea and Manchester United, attended the game with Turkey boss Vincenzo Montella.
