Ruan Pienaar Life

Ruan Pienaar, born in Bloemfontein in 1984, is a South African rugby union player who competes either as a scrum-half or as a fly-half for the Cheetahs and the Free State Cheetahs in Pro14 rugby and the Currie Cup. He is the uncle of former Springbok fullback Gysie Pienaar.

Ruan is known as a superb rugby player.

Besides being able to pass well, former Springbok coach Jake White was able to compare him to Australian fly-half Stephen Larkham (2006).

In 2008 and 2009, he also won the Currie Cup.

Personal life

"I have always believed there's so much more to life than rugby," Pienaar says, "being here gives me a great sense of purpose." I am not here for rugby; I'm here to touch lives." He is the co-founder of a South African bible study group for rugby players. He attended the Christian Fellowship Church on Belmont Road in Belfast, Ulster, while playing for Ulster.

Ruan Pienaar Career

International career

Pienaar made his Springbok debut against New Zealand in 2006 and was a member of the 2007 World Cup team. Since he did not play club rugby in South Africa since June 2010, it seemed unlikely that he would be called up to play for the national team again. SARU has a policy of excluding foreign-based players only in exceptional circumstances. However, Pienaar had been named in South Africa's 49-Man World Cup preliminary training squad on June 20, 2011. Pienaar has been a member of the South African squads for as long as.

Club career

Pienaar played rugby in Bloemfontein, where he attended Grey College. In 2002, he was selected for the Free State Craven Week team.

Pienaar played for the Sharks in the Currie Cup, and the Sharks in Super Rugby before joining Ulster.

Ulster reported on May 27th, 2010 that they had signed Pienaar on a two-year deal. Pienaar will compete in the Celtic League and Heineken Cup with fellow Springbok Johann Muller, Robbie Diack, Pedrie Wannenburg, and BJ Botha at the Belfast based team. In Ulster's victory over Glasgow Warriors on October 1, he made his Magners League debut on October 1st, scoring all 19 points. Pienaar was named on the Magners League Team of the Year for the 2010-11 season, as well as the Magners League Player of the Year award, which was also voted for by his peers.

During this period, Pienaar signed a two-year contract extension to his Ulster deal. Pienaar was also named captain of the Pro12 Dream Team for the 2011/12 season and was again selected at scrum half. Pienaar defeated Leinster 42-14 in the Heineken Cup Final in 2012. He appeared in the Pro 12 Final in 2013, scoring all of Ulster's 18 points in the 24-18 loss to Leinster.

Despite widespread media coverage tiesing him to Toulon, Pienaar, he signed a new three-year deal with Ulster, which will keep him in Belfast until the end of the 2016/17 season. Due to the IRFU's succession policy, no further contracts were offered, with some provinces limited to one foreign player per position. Once Leinster returned from New Zealand, Pienaar's position was untenable. He left the club as one of the club's most recognizable players of the modern period.

Pienaar played for Montpellier during the 2017/18 season before returning home to South Africa in 2019, with the Cheetahs, where he also played Currie Cup. Pienaar was loaned to the Sharks for the 2021/22 season as part of an investigation carried out to ensure that as many of the best South African players were playing for the South African teams in the tournament as possible.
