He played for the Crusaders from 2006 to 2012 in the elite Super Rugby competition, making his debut against the Chiefs in 2006. He was a member of the 2013 Super Rugby Championships for the Hurricanes.

Ben is Owen's older brother and is a All Black prop, and both play for Linwood Rugby Club in Christchurch. Both brothers were selected for the 2010 All Blacks squad to face Ireland and Wales in the home series, thus being the first brothers to represent New Zealand after Robin and Zinzan Brooke.

In the first match of the 2010 Tri-Nations tournament, his test results earned him a spot in the All Black's line up against South Africa. A week later, he played against South Africa again and twice against Australia in the ensuing weeks. He played in the penultimate match against South Africa but was left out of the team for the final match against Australia and his brother Owen took his place.

In the 2011 Tri-Nations tournament, he began with a friendly against Fiji and then victories over South Africa and Australia. He was involved in the penultimate loss to South Africa and was then swapped by brother Owen once more.

Franks was used as a sub in the 2011 Rugby World Cup's first match. When New Zealand defeated France in the final, he was an unemployed replacement.

Franks was later named in the 31-man All Black squad to attend the 2015 Rugby World Cup, competing in the knockout stages, including the final, where New Zealand defeated Australia 34-17.

Owen and Ben Franks' nieces were devastated by fatal disease

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 30, 2023
A woman has recalled the traumatic moment when a woman was warned her critically ill baby girl would not recover after she was struck down with meningitis that was initially misdiagnosed. Kate Franks-McDonald, Owen and Ben Franks' younger sister, has spoken out about the ordeal to raise concerns about the deadly disease, which can have life-threatening consequences if conditions are not followed. The mother-of-two hopes that sharing her story will inspire other parents to trust their gut instincts and intuition.
