Pop-up cells that will place prisoners in prefab Portakabin-style blocks will be added to try and solve the country's prisons' huge overcrowding crisis

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 16, 2023
In a lawsuit alleging that judges have been advised to delay sentencing violent offenders like rapists because there is nowhere to place them, justice Secretary Alex Chalk is set to implement a series of amendments to sentencing today. Chalk's proposal would see the number of rapid deployment cells, which are prefab Portakabin-style blocks that provide acomodation for prisoners. However, documents obtained by The Times show that this accomodation, in addition to 1,000 of these so-called pop-up cells that are already installed in 18 prisons in England and Wales, would still leave a 2,000 space deficit by 2025.

If ministers seek to end a major overcrowding crisis that has led to judges' refusal to put rapists behind bars, low-level offenders will clean up graffiti and plant trees rather than being sent to jail

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 15, 2023
Justice Secretary Alex Chalk is set to announce a line of reform-to-sentencing hearings on Monday, according to reports that judges have been advised to delay sentencing violent criminals like rapists because there are no places to put them. According to Mr Chalk, reforms would see rapists serve their entire term rather than allowing them halfway through to serve the remainder of their time on remand. But he said the government needed to investigate how less serious offenders'repay their debt to society,' citing the example of Texas, which is 'not known for its loosened approach to criminal law.'

Judges and magistrates would continue to accept a 'presumption' that criminals facing shorter prison terms should instead receive 'robust community orders' to rehabilitate them.

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 18, 2023
NADINE DORRIES: For days now, the world has been discussing Russell Brand - not Russell Brand - and Russell Brand alone. The charges, as well as the assertions and counter-claims, the emotional revelations, and the rambling defenses. MPs have "total breakdowns" as a result of the job's "most unsustainable" pressures, according to ex-Tory Cabinet Minister Rory Stewart

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 10, 2023
An ex-Cabinet minister has admitted that MPs attempted to kill themselves and had "total breakdowns" as a result of the job's "most unsustainable" pressures. Rory Stewart, who served in both Theresa May and David Cameron's administrations, said it was a'miracle' that some of his former colleagues in Parliament did not die by suicide. Former Tory MP Tony Davis, who represented Penrith and The Border between 2010 and 2019, outlined how politicians had to 'pretend' they had 'the answers to everything.' However, the 50-year-old, a former Conservative leadership candidate, told MPs that they have no idea what's going on.' Mr Stewart acted'creepily' in the hunt for a promotion by Mr Cameron during a television interview ahead of his book's publication, Politics On The Edge. I don't want to talk about the details because it's so personal to people,' he told GB News, but, yes, coworkers tried to murder themselves. These are people I knew.' And in very serious terms, they're about to die for themselves. It's a miracle that they aren't dead. 'There were other coworkers who had complete breakdowns in the most humiliating, personal, embarrassing way in public.'

'Door appoint me on the nose,' Rory Stewart's time as an MP disillusioned with politics, particularly Cameron, not to mention Tory who told him that 'Speak to me like that again, and I'll punch you on the nose.'

In north-west Syria, there is an extraordinary occurrence where he discovers that some of our richest citizens are funding municipal councils. 'Are not these enclaves controlled by jihadi factions?' "I think, Minister," Stewart says as a result of a civil servant's response in her early 20s, "I believe there are several groups in those fields." "So we are not funding jihadis?" "No, Minister."

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 29, 2023
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE : The disappearance of British Museum artefacts has prompted the Royal Collection Trust, the world's biggest private collection of artworks, to conduct a discreet inventory. Although there is no evidence that anything is amiss, a source tells me that tracking more than one million items can be difficult. The King has a penchant for traveling with his favorite art. One courtier was taken aback to face Queen Victoria's drawings and a Flemish oil painting from the Collection in a Royal lavatory.

SARAH SANDS: How the rescue of Peggy the short-sighted hedgehog brought such solace in my beloved father's last days

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 24, 2023
SARAH SANDS: We tried to get it free but it left only the smallest tracemor. It didn't seem that it was doing well. Because it was prickly, I told my grandson not to touch it. We'll all remember Horace the hedgehog. Kim, my husband, is the son of a Yorkshire vet and is notably uncaring about animals. When confronted with the hedgehog, something melted inside him. What was it? This creature from somewhere else is in danger, and it could be something of Tolkien. Something sturdy and tasty, but in peril. Our little hedgehog made no noise at all. While I brought out some milk and bread, Kim lifted it in cupped hands and placed it in a cardboard box. In that sentence, there are three common mistakes, but we have a lot to learn.

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 14, 2023
Rory Stewart, the former Cabinet minister, said he is 'actively' considering a political revival, raising the chances of it happening at '50-50.' Mr Stewart fought for a vibrant Conservative leadership challenge in 2019, making no mention of his Remainer views and ultimately losing to Boris Johnson. He started as a Conservative but later announced an independent bid for London mayor, but was forced to withdraw when Covid came and the vote was delayed. Since presenting the popular Rest is Politics podcast with Labour former spin doctor Alastair Campbell, he has raised his profile.

PLATELL'S PEOPLE: The world awakened Meghan, the martyr, this week

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 2, 2022
AMANDA PLATELL: Judging by her reaction to it, The interview with The Cut seems to have marked a moment when much of the world has shifted against Meghan (pictured). In the United States, she has been dubbed the "Petulant Princess," while French media have accused her of continuing to'monetize the Royal Family's image.' In the week Harry commemorated his mother's death, a German newspaper called her "shamelessly" copying Princess Diana.

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: At Balmoral, the Queen beds are on display

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 31, 2022
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: A large removal van arrived at Balmoral prior to the Queen's arrival, including an electric buggy from Windsor and a special orthopaedic bed to support HM's sleep. It's likely that it's the first time she has taken her bed with her, something son Charles also uses when staying with friends. If Camilla insisted on a bespoke waterbed, might she and the heir drift apart?

And I would say "why don't you just pay them to iron their own shirts?"

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 30, 2022

Mr Johnson refused to answer questions about what he'd do when he leaves Number 10 in a week's time on a visit to north Dorset. According to reports, the outgoing Prime Minister is harbouring a hope for a swift return to the political frontline. Including allegations that he might plan to make a big intervention as soon as the Conservative Party conference in October, there have also been rumors that he might plan to make a major intervention. However, when speaking to reporters at a site where gigabit-capable broadband is being introduced as part of a £5 billion government initiative, Mr Johnson swerved a chance to lay out his future plans. The prime minister maintained that voters were "more interested in their gigabit broadband than they are in the decision of this or that politician."

According to Rory Stewart, a significant amount of humanitarian assistance received overseas is 'wasteful and paternalistic.'

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 30, 2022
Former international development secretary Rory Stewart has admitted that a significant share of the UK Government's overseas assistance is 'wasteful and paternalistic.' Thorough, a one-time Tory leadership candidate who left the party in 2019, says a large portion of his time at the Department of International Development (Dfid) was spent on the wrong way of supporting poorer countries. Rather than giving them cash, he said buying products for families was inefficient.

Boris Johnson 'hovering around' and 'hoping for a return like Silvio Berlusconi', claims ex-minister

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 29, 2022
Boris Johnson could return to office with a 'populist' comeback similar to Italy's Silvio Berlusconi, according to an ex-Cabinet minister. Mr Johnson's "extraordinary ego," according to Rory Stewart, who has been a vocal critic of the outgoing Prime Minister, has a second spell in Number 10. Despite persistent controversies, the former Tory MP suggested that Mr Johnson might try and imitate Mr Berlusconi, the controversial politician who had three separate spells as Italy's Prime Minister with three distinct titles. Mr Stewart compared Mr Johnson to other deposed politicians, such as Pakistan's Imran Khan or Donald Trump in the United States, as he predicted that the prime minister would be 'hovering about' in the midst of a political revival.
