After serving more than five years as permanent, former Atlanta Braves general manager John Coppolella has been reinstated by Major League Baseball. Coppolella, who is now 44, joined the Braves in 2006 when he oversaw quantitative research and baseball statistics. Following the 2015 season, he became general manager, but was suspended on Nov. 21, 2017, after MLB announced that the team violated international signing laws from 2015-17. MLB found that the Braves funneled additional signing bonus funds to five players in 2015-16 by first transferring the funds to another player who was deemed a foreign professional under baseball's laws and having the remaining five players divide the money to the other five players.
