Personal life
Duboy was known for his long curly hair, which would fly behind him when he skated without a helmet in the NHL. In a television commercial for Sasson designer jeans, he and colleagues Phil Esposito, Dave Maloney, and Anders Hedberg appeared alongside him.
Dubo married California model Robin Bobo on December 1, 1983; the couple had two children before the marriage ended in divorce. In the 1990s, he married Kim Alexis, a former fashion model. After marrying Alexis, Dumay moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. In 2016, the couple divorced.
Slate (magazine) and other publications in 2022 have referred to him as the "reported beau" of former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Duduy confirmed that the couple was in fact dating in February 2022. Duo's restaurant, Elio's, on Second Avenue in Upper East City, Washington, was seen outside with Palin in January 2022. Palin had recently been positive for Covid-19. After the photographer questioned the danger of being in the company of Palin after she was positive, a photographer was reportedly assaulted by Duboy.
Junior career
Throughout his entire junior career, Dubay played for his hometown Sudbury Wolves of the OMJHL from 1973 to 1977. He was a key contributor for the Wolves and one of the team's top scorers. In the 1975–76 OMJHL season, he scored 134 points, helped the team win the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the best team in the regular season and advance to the Hamilton Fincups in six games.
Dubhu was selected to represent the national junior team in the 1977 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. In five games, Canada finished in second place, with 1 goal and 4 assist, totaling 5 points.
NHL career
In the 1977 NHL amateur draft, Duguay was drafted 13th overall by the New York Rangers. He appeared in 864 games during his career, scoring 274 goals and 346 assists for 620 points.
Dubs went straight from junior hockey to the NHL in 1977, with 20 goals in his rookie year. Dubyay spent his first six seasons in New York, where he was known for his long hair and flashy appearance as well as his ice hockey abilities.
Dumay's goal at 9 seconds against the Philadelphia Flyers on April 6, 1980, at the beginning of a game, set a team record for the fastest goal at the start of a game. Suffering injuries, his output did not progress as expected, but after playing for Team Canada in the 1981 Canada Cup, his game improved, and the Rangers led the Rangers in scoring with 40 goals in 1981–82. He appeared in the NHL All-Star Game in the same season as the Rangers' representative on the Wales Conference squad. Dupuy's numbers dropped from 1982-83, and he only scored 19 goals. Willie Huber, Mark Osborne, and Mike Blaisdell were traded to the Detroit Red Wings on June 13, 1983, Rangers coach Herb Brooks feuded with Duobey over his appearance and fame in New York's night life, and Eddie Johnstone, Eddie Mio, was traded to the Detroit Red Wings for Willie Huber, Mark Osborne, and Mike Blaisdell.
During Duguay's time with the Rangers, he was involved in several of team president Sonny Werblin's efforts to make the Rangers more fashionable and visible in disco-era New York City. This includes performing on Alan Thicke's "Hockey Sock Rock." Duoy, Phil Esposito, Pat Hickey, Dave Maloney, and John Davidson performed on the track. In 1979, Platinum Records 1217–75 was released as a 45, as well as a 48-year-old record.
His career was revived, and he was third on the team with 33 goals and second with 47 assists, placing him third on the team for points with 80 goals. With 38 goals, 51 assists, and 89 total points, he was second on the Red Wings in all three categories in 1984-85, his highest offensive season of his career. Doug Shedden was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins at the trade deadline in 1985–86.
Duguay spent only two seasons in Pittsburgh, and his results were never as good as it had been in New York or Detroit. In 1987, Pittsburgh traded Duguy to his original squad, the Rangers, in exchange for Chris Kontos, reuniting Duobay with former teammate and then-Rangers general manager Phil Esposito.
In the summer of 1987, Duguay re-signed with the Rangers. For the first time, Duguay was sent to the minors for the first time, and the Colorado Rangers of the IHL were playing two games.
Duguay completed his NHL career with the Los Angeles Kings in 1988–89, after briefly returning to the Rangers. In 1990, an attempted return to the Toronto Maple Leafs, as well as another with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where Phil Esposito was not a success in 1992.
Minor league career as player and coach
Duduy's career continued in the minor leagues for a few years after his retirement from the NHL in 2013. During the 1989-1990 season, he appeared in Europe with Mannheim ERC (German Bundesliga), then moved to the San Diego Gulls in the IHL, where he spent two seasons in the IHL. He retired after the 1991-1992 season, but the San Diego Gulls, who were then members of the WCHL, regained their participation three years later. Duay said he was inspired to return to hockey to help the then injured team; he also said that he wanted his children, who had been too young to play in the NHL, to see him play in the NHL.
With the Gulls, Dubo scored eight goals and nine assists in just 12 games during the 1995-1996 season. Dulls' season was limited to just five games over the next two seasons. He hopped to the Jacksonville Lizard Kings of the (ECHL) in 1998-1999 but he only played in one game before beginning his second season.
He was drafted by the Jacksonville Barracudas in 2003 and later competed in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. Duay started as a Barracudas forward and then took over as the team's head coach after six games. The Barracudas, who now play in the World Hockey Association 2, had a record and championship in 2003-2004. The Barracudas joined the newly formed Southern Professional Hockey League in 2004. The Barracudas' overall record over 314 seasons was 92–92–0–3 with Ducay as head coach, with a 6–3 playoff record.
Duduy resigned as coach after a rough 2005-06 season in which more than 50 different players left the team after the team finished with a 15–39–0–2 record. He resigned after telling the Florida Times-Union that he was "tired."
Post-hockey career
Duguay was an analyst for MSG Network's television coverage of Rangers' games from 2007 to 2018, as well as being a regular on MSG Network's weekly Hockey Night Live. The project is part of the Integrated Learning Network. Dub's deal with MSG came to an end in 2018 and was not renewed.
Dugay played two games in the EPHL, one game against the Brooklyn Aces and the Jersey Rockhoppers, on March 21, 2009, a non-profit group associated with Madison Square Garden. Dubnay signed a waiver and played his game with the Brooklyn Aces without a helmet, which allowed his hair to flow freely as it did when he played in the NHL. With 37 seconds remaining in regulation, he assisted on the game-tying goal, but the Aces would lose 4–3 in overtime, but the Aces would lose 4–3.
Duday was involved in the inaugural season of the Battle of the Blades ice skating competition on CBC Television in 2009, partnering with Barbara Underhill. World Vision Canada was the charity he skated for.
He has also had his jersey retired by the Sudbury Wolves.
The authors ranked Dumbay at No. 1 in the 2009 book 100 Ranger Greats. The 901 New York Rangers' first 82 seasons are the most active of the team.
Dumoyo played in the 2012 Winter Classic Alumni game pitting legends of the Rangers against the Philadelphia Flyers' legendary legends. Dufay attempted a breakaway on Flyer's great Bernie Parent in goal, but Dumay calmly shot the puck into the 65-year-old goalkeeper's pads less than two minutes into the game.
