Career

Following the completion of the Michele Clark broadcast journalism degree at Columbia University under producer Fred Friendly's direction, Canada launched his career as a television news reporter in 1971. He began his three-year involvement with WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C., in 1974, winning the award twice for his service in the country's capital. He was awarded an A.P. the following year. The Outstanding Reporting Award has been given to Michael Corret for his outstanding reporting.

In 1978, he began his acting career. He worked part-time as a broadcaster for The Voice of America (U.S. Information Agency) while undergoing the career transition. He studied drama at The Folger Theatre Company under Franchelle Stewart Dorn's tutelage. In 1985, he moved from Washington, D.C., to New York. He became the second actor to appear in August Wilson's Fences at The GeVa Theatre in Rochester, New York, (January 1986).

Canada has worked in television and film, best known for his roles in Cinderella Man, Wedding Crashers, and his recurring role on The West Wing, Under Secretary of State Ted Barrow. Ron received the Dallas Film Critics Award in 1996 and national attention for his role as "Otis Payne" in John Sayles' film Lone Star.

He appeared in a "photo negative" version of Shakespeare's Othello at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., as Emmet Tate in Zooman and The Signing of Duncan Troy in Headstrong, which earned him an Audelco Award nomination. Off Broadway - In Old Age - Playing Azell Abernathy at New York Theatre Workshop, N.Y.C. Broadway performance with Bryan Cranston, Tony Goldwyn, and Tatiana Maslany. Mr. Canada portrayed UBS chieftain Edward George Ruddy.
