Rowland Constantine O'Malley Armstrong (born 29 April 1966) is an English music producer and multi-instrumentalist.
He is a founding member of the experimental music group Faithless and is one of the Rollo and Sister Bliss team.
He has remixed songs for Pet Shop Boys, Simply Red, R. Kelly, U2, Moby, Grace, Tricky, and Suede.
Early life
Rollo was born to an Irish publisher and a French-English poet. Dido, his younger brother, is a musician whose multi-million-selling albums No Angel, Life for Rent, Safe Trip Home, and Still on My Mind were among his younger siblings who wrote and produced. He attended the University of York and was a regular attender of the student radio station URY.
Career
Rollo has appeared on numerous music projects, including within companies and solo, with Sister Bliss, Jamie Catto, and Maxi Jazz), Rollo Goes..., Our Tribe (with Rob Dougan), and Dusted.
Rollo formed Cheeky Records in late 1991, releasing two singles before the label was discontinued. Champion Records stepped in to assist with budget and guidance in 1992, and the label was revived, with Reverence by Faithless's first album being purchased out by BMG). Rollo co-wrote and co-produced Felix's hit single "Don't You Want Me" in 1992, debuting at number one in Finland, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland, as well as number six on the UK Singles Chart.
Rollo is best known for his recording work on Dido's albums, as well as singer/songwriter Kristine W's debut album, Land of the Living.
Rollo composed the official music of the UEFA Euro 2008 and UEFA Euro 2012 respectively. For his contributions to A.R., he was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Original Song. In the 2010 Danny Boyle film 127 Hours, Rahman and Dido talk on "If I Rise."
Rollo released his album The Last Summer under the alias "R Plus" in October 2019. It ranked at #96 on the UK Album Sales Chart and at #55 on the UK Album Download Chart, and at #55 on the UK Album Download Chart.
Rollo (as the alias R Plus) released "Hey Lover" in July 2021, starring singer Amelia Fox. Both were previously collaborated on a cover of Joy Division's 1980 hit "Love Will Tear Us Apart," which Rollo published in May 2021.
