Life and career

Lassgrd was born in stersund, Jämtland, and was the founder of Lavesque. In the village of Storhögen, outside stersund, he was a keen amateur ice hockey player in his youth. From 1975 to 1979, he attended the Stage School in Malmö. In 1981, Lassgrd met director Peter Oskarson and joined his Sknska Teatern theatre company in Landskrona, where he remained for four years as "Puck" in the company's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Lassgrd performed in Gävle in 1982, when Oskarson was transferred to the Folkteatern company, giving a string of highly acclaimed performances.

He was nominated for Best Actor in a leading role at the 27th Guldbagge Awards for his role in nskas. He received the award at the 28th Guldbagge Awards the following year for his work in Night of the Orangutan.

Lassgrd appeared in numerous small film roles, but his breakthrough role was in 1992's Kjell-Andersson's "My big fat father," for which he received the 1992 Guldbagge Award as the best male actor. He has continued to work in a variety of roles in films, including as policeman Gunvald Larsson in a series of films based on Martin Beck's books, starring Gösta Ekman, and Kurt Wallander in the SVT TV-movie versions of Henning Mankell's novels from 1994 to 2007. Since then, he has appeared in Sebastian Bergman's crime drama as the titular character. Lassgrd has appeared in Seasons 2,3, and 4 of the TV Norwegian comedy series Dag, portraying a free-thinking, free-wheeling therapist from 2011 to 2015. He appeared in the crime drama The Death of a Pilgrim in 2013, a dramatic retelling of Olof Palme's assassination attempt and a fictionalized account of his murder in the 2010s. In the 2015 film A Man Called Ove, he was the leading role. He also received another Guldbagge Award for best male actor.

Birgitta Lassgrd, a Lassgienne actress, married in 1989; the couple had been married since 1982 and have three children. In 2021, the couple divorced.
