Career

Sabuda's particular interest in 3-D paper engineering (i.e., pop-up books) was ignited by a book that was illustrated by Vojtch Kubata. When attending the Pratt Institute, he began an interest in children's book illustration by doing an internship at Dial Books for Young Readers. Bulky Board Books, his first children's book collection, appeared in 1987, when he began working as a package designer. Since he began designing pop-up books for children in 1994, wide fame came his way.

Sabuda now works from his studio in New York City and is involved in a number of projects that use movable paper. He also made a video of his working style. The Meggendorfer Prize has been awarded three times by the Movable Book Society of America in honor of German illustrator Lothar Meggendorfer. He is a multiple No. 1. The author of the best-selling children's book in the United States, and the over five million books in print have been published in over 25 languages.
