Southwest Airlines is looking at changing its open seating policy - in a bid to boost profits.  CEO Bob Jordan announced plans to revamp the airline's boarding and seating procedures as part of efforts to bolster its financial health. According to new reports, travelers returning home for the holidays will finally have some relief from ultra-expensive airfares this year. According to travel app Hopper, the cost of a domestic flight this Thanksgiving is $248, down 9 percent on the previous year and ten percent from 2019. On average, Americans are paying $313 for a domestic flight, down 18 percent from last year and 15 percent below 2019 prices. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics' inflation data, which was released today, showed a similar pattern. According to the survey, airfare prices dropped by 13.2 percent between October 2022 and October 2023.

The hold on departures backed up traffic at Denver to New York City, just four months after Southwest experienced a much-needed meltdown as a result of the holiday travel season. The carrier attributed the disruption on Tuesday's failure to 'data connection issues resulting from a firewall failure,' adding: 'Early this morning, a vendor-supplied firewall went offline, and connection to some operational information was unexpectedly lost.'
