Andre Onana reveals how his reading up on football's previously little-known rule about penalty shoot-outs allowed him to distract Coventry City - with the help of Aston Villa's Emi Martinez

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 22, 2024
NATHAN SALT AT WEMBLEY: Andre Onana revealed he was eager to provoke Coventry City's players during the penalty shootout to give Manchester United a crucial advantage after knowing his yellow card during the match had been 'cancelled'. Onana was booked for what referee Robert Jones deemed time wasting during the 120 minutes that preceded a dramatic shootout, won 4-2 by United after misses from Callum O'Hare and Ben Sheaf for Coventry. The Cameroonian was later booked during the shootout, similar to Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez during their Europa Conference League win over Lille on Thursday, and the United goalkeeper said he was emboldened to play the villain when he was made 'aware of the rules'.

Andre Onana received a second yellow card during Manchester United's penalty shootout win over Coventry on Sunday - but he was not dismissed. The Cameroonian goalkeeper was initially cautioned in the 85th minute for delaying the restart from a goal-kick, when Coventry were trying to find an equaliser at 3-2. He was also booked in the penalty shootout for arguing with the referee Robert Jones - but he was able to stay on the pitch.

After Casemiro was sent a yellow card against Aston Villa, Manchester United fans insist the Brazilian midfielder's reaction to being arrested was the'most funny thing ever.'

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 11, 2024
After Casemiro was shown a yellow card during Manchester United's match against Aston Villa, Manchester United fans reacted on social media. At Villa Park, Erik ten Hag's side took the lead early, with Rasmus Hojlund's Premier League hot streak to put them ahead after just 17 minutes. The hosts fought back as they hunted an equalizer for the remainder of the game, but United refused to give them an equalizer despite Andre Onana's two solid saves.

When Jade Crabtree went to the hospital after being concerned about bruises in her leg, she was just 19 (left). It was 'housemaid's knee' similar to a repetitive strain injury from kneeling down to clean, according to her GP. However, Jade was perplexed by the illness because she was a desk-based office worker. The pain was caused by a tumor that was so widespread that only therapy medics agreed would work was to amputate her left leg above the knee. 'It took six to seven visits to the GP before they acknowledged it was a rare form of bone cancer found in teenagers,' Jade, of north Wales, who now wears a prosthetic leg (right).'

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 26, 2023
According to Robert Jones, president of the pollsters, America's "political temperature is on the increase." "We should be deeply concerned about the increasing number of Americans who declare openness to political violence." According to an alarming new poll, nearly a quarter of Americans now say that the country has gotten so far off the rails that patriots will have to resort to violence to save it. Millions of Americans have adopted QAnon policies, according to polls conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), and that voters almost agree that the upcoming presidential election in next year could result in democracy's demise.

My Fair Lady it ain't!But this daringly eccentric new take on George Bernard Shaw's classic play would have delighted its creator: PATRICK MARMION reviews Pygmalion

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 22, 2023
Relax, Rex 'Arrison, and Audrey 'Epburn are among George Bernard Shaw's 1914 play Pygmalion was the inspiration for the beloved musical My Fair Lady. However, this revival of the Old Vic, starring Bertie Carvel and Patsy Ferran as Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle, could have fans of the film choking on their cucumber sandwiches. Robert Jones' production at times seems to be inspired by German Expressionism and the mechanical acting of the silent screen. Shaw's play is overdue a makeover, but in truth, it's true. We can't expect venerable old classics like this to go unmolested for long stretches of time. We should be grateful that it has been tackled with vehement, a hint of the unhinged, and a lot of technical ability.

After the club lodged a lawsuit against the official with the PGMOL after the club's tumultuous 3-2 loss to Man United, Robert Jones will referee Nottingham Forest for just THREE WEEKS

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 14, 2023
TOM COLLOMOSSE: Nottingham Forest will face referee Robert Jones against Burnley on Monday, just three weeks after receiving a formal complaint about the officials following their humiliating defeat at Manchester United. Jones was on VAR service at Old Trafford on August 26, when Forest defender Joe Worrall was sent off and United were awarded a controversial penalty after a tussle between Marcus Rashford and Danilo. After investigating the incidents, Jones upheld both calls. Even though teammate Willy Boly was close at hand, Worrall was supposed to be the last man when he fouled Bruno Fernandes. United's spot-kick had been converted by Fernandes to earn the points for the team, who had trailed 2-0 early in the game.

MARTIN KEOWN: Will game-masters of Newcastle waste in the wake of recent legislation?

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 18, 2023
Manchester City vs. Newcastle has the makings of a delectable fixture, and Eddie Howe's visitors' participation in this game will be highly interesting. Newcastle demonstrated that they can turn on the style that was on display last Saturday. They won 5-1 to go top of the Premier League for the first time since 2007. Howe's Newcastle were the game-management masters last season, with sloweding down games as it suited them. Time-wasting was a feature, particularly away and against teams that play possession-based football. Newcastle had the fastest 'ball in play' time of any Premier League club last season, with 53 minutes, 32secs), while City had the fastest (60min, 32sec). Howard Webb, the Referees' boss, has been given a clear directive to cracking down on slow play. We can safely assume that referee Robert Jones will have limited patience with time wasting, and that specifically Nick Pope will not be able to score long at goal-kicks. The Newcastle keeper took an average of 36 seconds to return to action last season - by far the longest time in the League. When I played in a possession-based Arsenal team under Arsene Wenger, I would be in the ear of the referee early in the match, telling him it w

CHRIS WHEELER: Erik ten Hag's dreadful Casemiro is missing

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 13, 2023
CHRIS WHEELER: Casmiro buried his face in his shirt and began to weep in silence. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag must have felt like doing the same, although watching forlornly from the touchline. For the second time in five weeks after receiving another red card for his challenge against Southampton's Carlos Alcaraz, he was strolling towards the tunnel at Old Trafford. The Brazilian is now facing his third ban of his first season at United, as a result of the number of games he has missed from suspension to eight. Casemiro's latest injury will keep him out of Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final match against Fulham and the Premier League games against Newcastle, Brentford, and Everton. It will not be long enough for Ten Hag and his colleagues.

After Andy Carroll's attack on Christian Eriksen, Erik ten Hagen has requested more coverage for players

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 31, 2023
On Tuesday, Erik ten Hag blasted Andy Carroll for the tackle that has kept Christian Eriksen out of action for up to three months, requiring more compensation for his Manchester United actors. Carroll received a suspended suspension from referee Darren England for his lunge on Eriksen during Saturday's FA Cup match against Old Trafford before being dismissed for two fouls in five minutes on Tyrell Malacia and Casemiro. Ten Hag believes that all three of Carroll's tackles were reckless, and they'don't belong on a pitch.' In a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park a fortnight ago, the United manager wondered why referee Robert Jones took no action against Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta when the striker caught Lisandro Martinez in the chest with an elbow.
