Although the red thong worn in The Full Monty in 1997 garnered applause in the film, it seems that it has diminished in popularity as it failed to sell in a Hollywood prop auction. On Tuesday, Robert Carlyle's co-star Mark Addy's red thong was up for auction along with other popular props, but it wasn't the only one that didn't sell. Carlyle and his crew of steelworkers stripped off the underwear in a scene that was supposed to be a popular item in the Hollywood prop auction. However, although the controversial Titanic door prop and Indiana Jones' whip raised hundreds of thousands at the auction of props owned by Planet Hollywood, the red satin thong did not sell.

Researchers want to get 'witness statements' from anyone interested in the show's 28-year run, whether they were extras, consultants, or dead bodies, as they begin to build an archive of the iconic program's influence on crime fiction. Detectives are hoping that witnesses will bring "corroborating evidence" - mementoes from their time on the show - or even memorabilia - to donate to a vast repository of the event's history. Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) has collaborated with Taggart actor and honorary graduate Dr Blythe Duff (main picture, far right) to provide the warrant for the show's unsung heroes ahead of three days of drop-in sessions next month.

Hugo, a retired steel worker from Sheffield, was filming The Full Monty television drama for a hefty sum, with his Monty companions Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, Paul Barber, Steve Huison, Lesley Sharp and Tom Wilkinson, 25 years after they made the wonderful original film about six unemployed steel workers from Sheffield, who formed a striptease group. However, this blessed life was marred last year when Hugo was barred from 'inappropriate behaviour' during filming in Manchester. His crime? He is struggling to understand it. Hugo was suspended for being caught undressed in the privacy of his own trailer while changing after a day of filming.

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS PERSONAL EDITOR CHRISTOPHER STEVENS of PC Joan MacIver is caught in a murder on her isolated rural beat. She can't go anywhere without her broom. The bulk of us knew of crime prevention on the west coast of Scotland prior to the film Highland Cops (BBC2) (first shown in Scotland last Sunday): Hamish Macbeth, the cosy mystery series from the mid-1990s starring Robert Carlyle, was the first to be published in Scotland.
