www.dailymail.co.uk, April 29, 2024
JACK GAUGHAN: Manchester City sat inside their dressing room at the City Ground in February of the Treble season, watching Arsenal. Huddled around Rico Lewis' phone, they saw stoppage time drama, Mikel Arteta dancing down the Villa Park touchline after the late win in what felt a decisive blow in the title race. Immediately up next and with the pressure on, City then battered Nottingham Forest but only drew 1-1. Chris Wood scored Forest's sole chance, one of City's own making. Locals set off fireworks next to the stadium in celebration. Pep Guardiola's had better days. Manchester City sat inside their dressing room at the City Ground on Sunday, five games to go, watching Arsenal. The victory at Tottenham had been shown on their coach and some continued studying it when they arrived before warming up.

MAN CITY NOTEBOOK: Kyle Walker champing at the bit to help Treble bid, Rico Lewis happy to rile up rival fans... and Jack Grealish clears up Netflix doc doggy Poo-dunit!

JACK GAUGHAN: Kyle Walker is desperate to get back into the swing of things and help his Manchester City teammates on all three fronts - and an indicator of that came last week. The hamstring injury sustained on international duty has frustrated Pep Guardiola, who has made at least two pointed references to how it was tweaked during a 'friendly'. He's now missed four games, and didn't even travel to Real Madrid, so it's not an insignificant knock.

Pep Guardiola's side made four changes from the side that beat Crystal Palace on Saturday, but the most eye-catching is the omission of the Belgian. Rico Lewis, Julian Alvarez and Oscar Bobb also miss out, with Manuel Akanji, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Mateo Kovacic coming in for the Bernabeu clash.

SOUL OF SPORT: Manchester City's goal chase continues as the Premier League title chase continues with a dramatic win over Crystal Palace... with ANDY HOOPER on hand to capture the best of the action

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 8, 2024
Welcome back to the Soul of Sport. ANDY HOOPER travelled to Selhurst Park to watch Manchester City beat Crystal Palace in a six-goal Premier League thriller in the latest episode of the series. After Kevin De Bruyne scored his 100th goal for the club and sparked the club's revival, the city resumed their title defense in imperious fashion in the capital. After Jean-Philippe Mateta fired into the far corner, Palace stunned the world leaders until De Bruyne bent home a brilliant attempt to bring City back to level. The Pep Guardiola's heavyweights then took over the game. Youngster Rico Lewis came into their lead and City was quickly calmed, with Erling Haaland converting a cross on 66 minutes. De Bruyne scored his second game of the season shortly after, but Odsonne Edouard's late goal gave up a tumultuous finish. With 24-70mm and 70-200 lenses, our cameraman caught the action.

Crystal Palace 2-4 Manchester City: Kevin De Bruyne's double powers Pep Guardiola's men level with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League as they come from behind to win

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 6, 2024
Manchester City kept up the pressure on their title rivals, with Kevin de Bruyne scoring his 100th goal for the club in their 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace. There were questions regarding whether or not the Belgian or Erling Haaland would be in the starting line-up for the lunchtime kick-off at Selhurst Park, where the hosts were fired in front three minutes after kick-off. De Bruyne drew the sides level moments later, and City took the lead for the first time less than two minutes after the restart was restarted by Rico Lewis' second Premier League goal before De Bruyne threw up Haaland for City's third. In the 70th minute, De Bruyne added another in a solo effort to make it a century of goals for City. Odsonne Edouard, a Palace replacement, fought one back.

Bernardo Silva, a Man City star, is seen eavesdropping on Mikel Arteta's team's chat as the Man City actor takes pride in a title showdown with Arsenal

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 1, 2024
Bernardo Silva tried to get the ultimate advantage in Sunday's title showdown with Arsenal - by eavesdropping on Mikel Arteta's team talk! Games against championship rivals are always about finding tiny margins where you can gain a lead, and Man City's Portuguese star did just that during their match against the Gunners. Both managers had the opportunity to give their teams some tactical direction at a break in play during the goalless draw between the two title candidates. Although Pep Guardiola was in deep discussion with City teen Rico Lewis, Mikel Arteta was at the forefront of several Arsenal players and instructing them on what he wants. Arteta didn't see, but was picked up by followers on social media, Silva casually walking up to the Arsenal huddle and listening in on what the Arsenal boss had to say.

Harvey Elliott says he's ready to step up after scoring twice against Azerbaijan... and the Liverpool midfielder could be next on the long list of Under-21 players rewarded with a senior England call-up

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 22, 2024
Kobbie Mainoo was in one door and out the other earlier this week, with Jarrad Branthwaite getting the nod. It's never been so encouraging to be a Young Lion. Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis, and Levi Colwill have all been given senior recognition this season, but 20-year-old Elliott is one man who has waited this long, but one man is still waiting. Last summer, the Liverpool man was a central part of England's Under 21s Euro triumph. One of the best moments in Georgia was his solo goal in the loss of Germany.

JACK GAUGHAN IN BAKU: Gareth Southgate has depleted the deep pool of resources for England's Under-21s, with two others expected to join the seniors. Earlier this week, Kobbie Mainoo was in one door and straight out the other, with Jarrad Branthwaite getting his first call-up at a time when being a Young Lion has never been so encouraging. Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis, and Levi Colwill have all been granted senior status this year, but Harvey Elliott is one of the few people who is still waiting.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's crew wants to REVOLUTIONISE Man United: Dan Ashworth, a leading ex-Man City figure and another architect of Brighton's dynamic recruitment process, could be recruited by a key ex-Man City figure and another architect

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 16, 2024
Even by the highest of circumstances, Manchester United's ship is moving quickly right now. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been dubbed a 'guy in a hurry' by the billionaire and his INEOS aides as they attempt to reform the power system at Old Trafford. It doesn't take an INEOS root and branch review to realize that recruiting is one key area where United have been failing in the last decade.

Manchester City is more fighting than they did during their Treble winning season in the Premier League, with Pep Guardiola insisting that his side has been "a better unit."

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 1, 2024
JACK GAUGHAN: As the Premier League championship battle heats up, Manchester City is showing Pep Guardiola more fight than during their historic Treble campaign. Guardiola watched as Ederson sprung to the defense of Rico Lewis after a 3-1 win over Burnley, bringing Connor Roberts away from the young full back in a late skirmish. The incident took place just over a year after the City manager chastised Lewis for failing to shield him in a match against Tottenham Hotspur, when the adolescent was given intensive medical attention.

After Michael Olise's stoppage time penalty salvaged a point for Crystal Palace against Manchester City, Roy Hodgson laughs at an enraged Pep Guardiola

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 16, 2023
As his Crystal Palace team battled back to claim a point against the Premier League champions, Roy Hodgson couldn't help but smirk at Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. From the outset at the Etihad, the city took over for their domination as Jack Grealish opened the scoring to extend his goalscoring streak to three consecutive Premier League games. As the game came to a close, the Citizens doubled their lead after the interlude through Rico Lewis and appeared to be on track for their first home win in the league since the third week in November.

Anthony Gordon is a threat to Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, and Gareth Southgate is keeping an eye on an Everton defender... so which young players could play a key role in England's Euro 2024 squad?

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 15, 2023
Gareth Southgate's roster has undergone significant change since losing to Italy two years ago as a penalty-shoot out winner. His current squad featured six players who had not been signed at the time of the final at Wembley. The England boss, who has a reputation as a skepticism-oriented operator both on and off the track, seems to have loosened his stringent selection criteria for newbies. Eddie Nketiah, Levi Colwill, Eberechi Eze, Rico Lewis, and Cole Palmer have all made their debuts in the last six months.

Despite the fact that the £43 million midfielder has previously stated that he wanted to fight for a spot in Pep Guardiola's team, Juventus is considering a loan move for out-of-favour Man City player Kalvin Phillips

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 1, 2023
JACK GAUGHAN: Juventus is emerging as a potential destination for Kalvin Phillips if the midfielder decides to leave Manchester City in January. The England international has played for only 216 minutes in eight appearances this season, with teenager Rico Lewis so far preferred during City's Champions League campaign. Phillips, who has always been eager to fight under Pep Guardiola, is left wondering what to do ahead of the European Championship next summer.
