Life and career

Overton was born in Forest Hills, New York, son of Nancy Overton (née Swain), a guitarist), and Hall Overton, a music arranger. He grew up in Englewood, New Jersey, where he attended Dwight Morrow High School.

Overton appeared in the 1982 film Young Doctors in Love, followed by a small part in Airplane II: The Sequel later that year. In 1987, he wrote an episode of The New Adventures of Beans Baxter, while still appearing in numerous films and television shows, including Willow, Amazing Stories and Million Dollar Mystery.

In 1992, he appeared on FOX Network sketch comedy show The Edge. In 1993, the show came to an end. Overton appeared in two episodes of Seinfeld later this year and was given a small role in Mrs. Doubtfire. In the ensuing year, he received an Emmy for a writer a Dennis Miller Live episode.

Overton appeared on Alias and Joan Of Arcadia in 2005; in the latter, he played God, who revealed to the title character the meaning of real wealth. He also played both H.G. and E.G. In a podcast episode of Dr. Floyd's Radio Adventures, Wells and Orson Welles appeared in a podcast episode.

Overton appeared in the film A Fork in the Road in 2009 with Jaime King.

Overton appeared in a General Electric commercial as the father who wants his son to have his grandfather's hammer.

Last Saturday, Disney+ unveiled the first full trailer for its Willow sequel, in which Warwick Davis wields a flame thrower as the titular character Willow Ufgood. The 52-year-old Englishman was only 17 when he accepted the role of the Nelwyn dwarf sorcerer apprentice, and his character has clearly deteriorated in the sequel, which was set 20 years ago.
