Early life
Reeve Carney was born and raised in Manhattan's West Village neighborhood with his brother Zane and sister Paris. He grew up in a family of musicians and actors: John, his father, was a songwriter for commercials, and a jewelry designer, and his great uncle, Art Carney, was Academy Award-winning actor Art Carney. He learned how to play the piano at a young age and began to perform for radio and television commercials. He was selected to appear and film in Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall with Peter, Paul, and Mary at the age of 8. Carney and his brother, Zane, and future bandmates Aiden Moore and Jon Epcar attended Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles to receive a music education. He went on to study at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music, concentrating on studio jazz guitar.
Career
Carney began playing guitar at the age of 12, and three years later he was playing guitar at B.B. King's night club in Los Angeles. Carney recorded his first EP Looking Glass in 2004 and promoted it by performing with other artists, including Jonny Lang. He signed with Interscope and formed Carney, a jazz-infused rock band made up of Carney (songwriter, vocals, and guitar), his brother Zane (guitar), Aiden Moore (bass), and Jon Epcar (drums). David Sonenberg, the band's manager, was inspired by the band's vision. In 2008, Carney released Nothing Without You, their first EP, and Mr. Green Vol., their debut album. In May 2010, there were 1, in May 2010. In 2009, the band appeared on tour with The Veronicas on their Revenge Is Sweeter world tour, and in 2011, they opened for Arcade Fire and U2 in Moncton, Canada, on the final date of the U2 360° Tour.
Carney was able to be part of Broadway's Carols for a Cure in 2011 (St. Nicholas Sky) ft T.V. Carpio (A Savior Is Born) and 2013 ("A Savior Is Born"). Carney also performed "Rise Above 1" with Bono and The Edge in 2011, an adapted version of the musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Sun. Carney, in addition to writing his own music, also writes songs for soundtracks for films including The Tempest (2010) and Breaking Dawn, Part 2 (2012). Carney's debut solo album, Youth Is Wasted, was released in October 2016, which he wrote and produced himself. Since then, Carney has appeared on tour twice (Reeve Carney Fall Tour 2016 and Youth Is Wasted Tour 2017). In six categories on the 16th annual Independent Music Awards (The IMAs), three songs from his album as well as the album itself were nominated (The IMAs). "Think of You" was named "Best Song – Acoustic," "Resurrection" received "Best Song – Rock or Hard Rock," and the album received the accolade "Best Album – Adult Contemporary."
Carney appeared on the big screen in the film The Saint of Fort Washington (1993), playing a small part. Carney appeared in the film Snow Falling on Cedars in 1999 as the young Ishmael Chambers. His performance attracted raves and he was named "Best Performance in a Feature Film" on the 2000 Young Artists Awards. Before deciding to concentrate solely on music, Carney was in charge of a few films as a child actor. In 2010, he was hand-picked by director Julie Taymor to perform Ferdinand in a film version of William Shakespeare's The Tempest. In Spider-Man: Turn Off the Shadow on Broadway, Taymor also cast Carney for the lead role. During the auditions, Bono and The Edge, the show's musical directors' musical engineers, were taken aback by Carney's vocals, and he was chosen for the role. He appeared on spider-Man for three years before he appeared in November 2010. For Turn Off the Dark, the remainder of his bandmates appeared as part of the pit orchestra. Carney was on Kenny Ortega's radar to appear Riff Raff Raff Raff, the handyman on Fox's version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show during the filming of Penny Dreadful's last season. He appeared in the two-hour musical television film and performed three of the songs on the film's soundtrack. On October 20, 2016, the film premiered on the Fox network.
Reeve Carney performed Orpheus in 2017 as Orpheus in the Citadel Theatre production of Hadestown. Carney and his Spider-Man co-stars Patrick Page and T.V. were reunited in the film.
