Reche Caldwell Life

Donald Reche Caldwell, Jr., (REE-shay; born March 28, 1979) is an American former college and professional football player who played for six seasons in the National Football League (NFL).

Caldwell played college football for the University of Florida and later for the San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots, and Washington Redskins of the NFL.

Early years

Caldwell was born in 1979 in Tampa, Florida. He attended Jefferson High School in Tampa, where he was a three-sport standout in high school football, basketball, and baseball for the Jefferson Dragons. Caldwell's career as a freshman started at tailback, but he converted to quarterback as a sophomore—a position he had never played—and he threw for 6,936 yards and 77 touchdowns as a three-year starter. He threw for 2,338 yards, led the Dragons to a Class 5A state semifinal game, and was named Player of the Year by PrepStar. He was a first-team all-state pick in 1996 and a second-team pick in 1997.

He set the Jefferson Dragons' career records for batting average (3.79), doubles (25), triples (six), and runs (76). In the 1998 MLB draft, the Cincinnati Reds selected him, but he decided against playing college football instead.

Personal life

Caldwell was Andre Caldwell, a former Florida Gators wide receiver and kick returner.

Caldwell was jailed on May 14, 2014, for drug possession and intent to sell. He was sentenced to 27 months in federal jail and three years probation for possessing MDMA with the intention to distribute on January 30, 2015. In addition, he pleaded guilty to drug charges involving marijuana and ecstasy, as well as charges involving gambling.

Caldwell's Justice Department charged Caldwell of conspiring to commit health care fraud on December 12, 2019. On January 23, 2020, he pled guilty to one count of health theft conspiracy, and he was due to be sentenced in June 2020.

Reche Caldwell Career

College career

Caldwell accepted a athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he served with coach Steve Spurrier's Gators teams from 1998 to 2001. He was a third-team All-American pick by The National Sports Bureau in 2001, an honorable mention All-American pick by the Football News, a semi-finalist for the Fred Biletnikoff Award (annually awarded to the nation's top receiver), and a second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection as a junior. He ended his stellar junior season with sixty-five receptions for 1,059 yards (an average of 16.3 yards per catch) and ten touchdowns, becoming the ninth receiver in Gators history to receive more than 1,000 yards in a single season. Caldwell was a pioneer in leisure service administration.

Professional career

Caldwell was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft, with the 48th overall pick. From 2002 to 2005, he played for the Chargers for four seasons. He had twenty-two catches for 208 yards and three touchdowns, as well as nine kickoffs for a 24.4-yard average in his rookie season. He appeared in nine games for four starts for the Chargers in 2003; he had eight passes for eighty yards and rushed for thirty-nine yards on five attempts.

In the Chargers' first five games, he started his 2004 season with three touchdown receptions. Caldwell sustained a knee injury in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and was suspended for the season. In 2005, he returned to play a full season.

Caldwell was signed by the New England Patriots shortly before the 2006 season. He went on to tackle 60 catches and 700 yards on the season. Caldwell had seven receptions for 80 yards, with quarterback Tom Brady on four touchdown receptions in the fourth quarter during a playoff game against the Chargers. During the Patriots' 38–34 loss to the Indianapolis Colts last week, he dropped two passes during the AFC Championship game. Caldwell was activated by the Patriots four days before the Patriots' first game of the 2007 season.

In September 2007, Caldwell agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins. He appeared in eight games for the Redskins during the 2007 season with fifteen receptions for 141 yards.

Caldwell signed the St. Louis Rams for one year on March 25, 2008. However, he was cut off during the final preseason roster cuts.

Caldwell played in seventy-one games, beginning in twenty-nine of them, while still receiving 152 receptions for 1,851 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had fourteen carries for 108 yards.
