Rebecca Jean Fink (née Smallbone; born 26 July 1977), also known as Rebecca Jean or Rebecca St. James, is an Australian Christian pop rock singer and actress.

She began performing in Australia in the late 1980s and released her first full-length studio album in 1991.

She was signed to ForeFront Records in 1993, making her debut on the following year. St. Jacques is a city in the United States.

James came to fame in the late 1990s with her RIAA-certified Gold albums God and Pray, the latter of which received a Grammy Award in 1999 for Best Rock Gospel Album and her holiday album Christmas.

Multiple singles were released, including "God," "Go and Sin No More Since," and "Pray."

Since then, she has established herself as one of contemporary Christian music's most popular artists (CCM), with four more full-length studio albums: Transform, Worship God, and I Will Praise You.

"Wait for Me," "Reborn," "Alive," "Want to Love," "Alive," and "Shine Your Glory Down" are among the popular songs that have been derived from these releases.

Early life

Rebecca Jean Smallbone was born in Sydney on June 26th, 1977, to parents David and Helen Smallbone. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee, after her father's job relocation in 1991, where she was raised with five brothers, Ben, Dan, Joel, Josh, and Luke.

Personal life

St. James is a native of Australia but she and her family immigrated to the United States at the age of 14. She now lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Joel and Luke Smallbone, two of her brothers, formed the King & Country band.

On January 3, 2011, she revealed her involvement with Foster the People's now deceased bassist Jacob "Cubbie" Fink, a Colorado resident and missionary to South Africa. Fink suggested on Christmas Day 2010 at St. James' farm in Franklin. They married on April 23, 2011 at the Juno Serra Museum in San Diego, California. On October 4, 2013, St. James announced that they were expecting their first child and that Gemma Elena Fink was born on February 18th. On May 11, 2018, St. James gave birth to Imogen Watson Fink, his second child. St. James revealed on April 29, 2020, she was 21 weeks pregnant with her third child. River Jack, St. James' son, was born in August 2020.

Career

During his Australian tour in 1990, St. James opened shows for CCM artist Carman at twelve years old. Refresh My Heart, Australia's first independent album, was released in May under the stage name "Rebecca Jean." Her family moved to the United States where her father received a job offer shortly after its publication, and she and her father were relocated to the United States. She signed with ForeFront Records and took her stage name at the label's request. Rebecca St. James made her debut on major label in 1994: Rebecca St. James. In 1995, she released the Rebecca St. James EP: Extended Play Remixes.

St. James' third studio album God was released on June 25, 1996, a tidal led by the title track. The album took her music in a new direction, more on rock. It debuted to encouraging critiques and debuted at 200, and it reached its high point on the Billboard 200, at 168. It also ranked at No. 1. On the Billboard Heatseekers chart, ten of them are in number 10 and No. 105, according to No. 10. 6 on Billboard's Modern Christian chart. In 1997, she was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album for God, and in 2005, she was RIAA gold for selling over 500,000 copies. In 1996, St. James published 40 Days with God: A Devotional Journey to promote the album.

St. James published the sequel to her devotional book: 40 Days with God. She unveiled her fourth studio album and first holiday collection, Christmas, on October 7th of the same year. The album debuted at No. 67. 12 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart and No. 123 on the No. 1st. On the most popular Christian chart in the United States, 14 people are 14 on the 14th top.

St. James' fifth studio album, Pray, debuted to mixed reviews on October 20th. The album managed to debut at No. 1 in the charts. On the Billboard 200, there are 168 on the Billboard 200, and No. 1 is No. 1. Both the Heatseekers Chart and the Contemporary Christian Chart are on page 5 on both the Heatseekers Chart and the Contemporary Christian Chart. In 1999, the album received a Grammy Award for Best Rock/Gospel Album, and in 2006, it was RIAA-certified gold for selling over 500,000 copies. St. James contributed to the CCM compilation album Surfonic Water Revival with the song "Gold Coast."

In 1999, St. James introduced "Yes, I Believe In God" to radio only in honor of the lives of those who were killed at the Columbine shooting. The song was later released on Rebecca St. James' album Wait for Me: The Best of Both World. In 1999, St. James released a video on VHS named "No Secrets" that featured interviews of her and her family, behind-the-scenes video, and the song "Pray" music video. St. James performed in Heaven & Earth: A Tapestry of Worship, a CD release that featured female Christian artists such as Nichole Nordeman and Jennifer Knapp. In November 1999, the album was released in 1999 and features two songs by St. James; "As We Wait" and "River of Life." St. James' sixth studio album, Transform, was released on October 24, 2000. The album debuted at No. 97 in the charts. No. 166 on the Billboard 200, No. 166. St. James appeared on the CCM compilation album "The Prayer of a Jabez" in 2001, which is a duet with Michael Tait.

In 2002, to promote the single "Wait For Me" from Transform, St. James published Wait for Me: Rediscovering the Joy of Purity in Romance, which went on to sell over 100,000 copies and spawn a journal and study guide. The song and book encourages sexual abstinence before marriage, and St. James has since emerged as a key spokesperson on the subject.

On February 12, 2002, St. James released a cover of Keith Green's "Your Love Broke Through" on the compilation album "Your Love Broke Through: Keith Green's Worship Songs Of Keith Green. Phil Keaggy and I have a duet together on this album. St. James' eighth studio album, Worship God, was released two weeks later, on February 26, 2002. The album debuted to largely glowing feedback and charted at No. 1 on the charts, receiving the highest accolades and a no. St. James' first Top 100 album and No. 94 on the Billboard 200, marking his debut on the Billboard 200. The Contemporary Christian chart ranks 5th on the Contemporary Christian chart. In November 2002, she released a DVD to promote her album 19 November 2002, which featured music videos, interviews, etc.

St. James' first compilation album, Wait for Me: The Best of Rebecca St. James, released 16 of her most popular songs and two new ones on March 25, 2003, including "I Thank You," which attained No. 0 on her debut. 2 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart. The album was unable to make the Billboard 200, but it was charted at No. 1. On the Contemporary Christian chart, 16 is number 16.

On February 24, 2004, St. James' debut live album, Blessed Be Your Name, featured seven new songs and two studio-recorded songs. The album reached No. 1 on the charts. St. James released The Best of Rebecca St. James and her book SHE: Safe, Well-Empowered Women You're Made to Be Later this year. St. James appeared in the stage musical 'Hero' as a modern day Mary Magdalene (as Maggie). As Hope the Music Box Angel, St. James later added her voice to the VeggieTales episode "An Easter Carol" as Hope the Music Box Angel. Veggie Rocks, a pop/rock VeggieTales album, was also on display in a pop/rock version. For the album, I covered "The VeggieTales Theme Song." St. James appeared on Dennis Jernigan and Newsboys records as a guest vocalist for the same year. "Faithful Friend" and "Blessed Be Your Name" are two of her co-performers.

St. James returned to the studio in early 2005 to record new songs after a hiatus from recording music. "Alive," the album's first single, was released on October 24th, 2005. The album managed to debut at No. 1 on the charts. 3 on R&R's CHR Chart and No. 5 and No. 1 respectively. Billboard's Hot Christian Songs Chart debuts at 13. If I Had One Chance to Tell You Something, her eighth studio album, If I Had One Chance to Tell You Everything, was released on November 22, 2005. The album received largely critical feedback when it first appeared. It debuted at No. 1 in the United States charted at No. 1. 14 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums Chart, but failed to make the Billboard 200.

St. James released a Teen Version of her book, SHE, on July 1, 2005, and on October 1, 2005, she published Sister Freaks: Stories of Women Who Give Up Everything For God. Christian Cinema announced on August 19 that St. James had finished shooting a new film, Rising Stars, which was released on October 22, 2010. St. James' version of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" on the album The Essential Christmas Collection debuted on October 19, 2010.

St. James revealed on November 18, 2010 that she had left ForeFront Records and that a new worship album would be released in April 2011 by Beach Street/Reunion Records. I Will Praise You, her ninth studio album, was released on April 5, 2011. It was preceded by the single "Shine Your Glory Down," which was released to Christian radio on February 11th. The album received rave reviews from Christian music journalists and was extremely popular, debuting at No. 1. 18 on Billboard's Hot Christian Albums chart, with later peaking at No. 18 and later debuting at No. 18 and later. 9. It also topped at No. 84. Worship God came 153nd on the Billboard 200, her highest charting effort after Worship God. On September 26, 2011, her ninth book, What Is He Thinking?, appeared in bookstores.

St. James continued her film career in 2011 with Suing the Devil. In 2012, the Frontier Boys were resurgent.

St. James appeared in A Strange Brand of Happiness, a romantic comedy film that was released on September 13, 2013. Joyce, a single Christian life coach who falls for an agnostic client, is the subject of the film. It began filming in Cincinnati on August 15, 2011 and was released on September 13.

St. James revealed on Facebook on March 12, 2013 that she was publishing The Merciful Scar, her first Christian book co-authored with Nancy Rue. It was announced on September 10, 2013. Mother India: Life Through the Eyes of the Orphanage, which was also released on April 23, 2013.

On January 7, 2014, ForeFront Records released a compilation album. The CD was released as an Icon, but the iTunes Store version was called Best of Rebecca St. James. Sarah's Choice, her second book based on the 2009 film of the same name in which St. James appeared, was released on May 27, 2014, while her third book, One Last Thing, was published on March 10, 2015. Nancy Rue co-authored both books.

St. James' film career continued into 2015 with Faith of Our Fathers, which featured St. James portraying a car-stealing Australian hitchhiker. She appeared in Priceless, a 2016 film directed, produced, and edited by her brother Joel Smallbone, who also appeared in the film.

St. James, her brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone of the band for King & Country, recorded and unveiled a portrait of "Amazing Grace" after many years of musical hiatus. In October 2017, the album was released. On a Christmas tour, she appeared with King & Country and Casting Crowns, as well as a live duet of their song "The Proof of Your Love." Point of Grace, Avalon, Nicole C. Mullen, Bob Carlisle, and NewSong followed St. James on the "Greatest Hits Live" tour from November 2018 to May 2019.

St. James revealed on January 10, 2019 that she was writing music for a new album with frequent collaborator Tedd T. and that she had signed with Heritage Music Group, Bethel Music's imprint. St. James revealed on Facebook live that her latest album would be called Dawn, though she later announced on Instagram that Dawn will be an EP rather than a full length record. "Battle Is the Lord's" was the EP's first single, and it features guest artist Brandon Lake. Dawn was announced on July 24, 2020. St. James was included on the acoustic version of for KING & COUNTRY's single "Together," which also featured Cory Asbury.

St. James released the single "Kingdom Come" starring her brothers for KING & COUNTRY on October 22, 2021. The song is the lead single from her tenth studio album, Kingdom Come, which was released on March 25, 2022. On February 20, 2022, the album's second single, "Praise," was released.
