Personal life
Chiara Giordano married him in March 2000. Bova and Giordano were unemployed in 2013. Since the two met on the film set of Immaturi – Il viaggio (2012), he began dating actress Rocio Muoz that same year. They had their first child in December 2015, the same month their film All Roads Lead to Rome was released.

Life and career
Bova was born in Rome to a father from Roccella Ionica in Calabria and a mother from Acerra in Campania. Bova, a 16-year-old boy, became the 100 meter backstroke champion of the city. He joined the Italian Army and served his military service in the Bersaglieri (sharpshooters) corps at the age of 21. He enrolled in the ISEF, the Italian Institute of Physical Education, but after graduating from high school, he turned to a career in acting. He attended Beatrice Bracco's Rome school and then studied acting with Michael Margotta.
Bova starred as a hunky watersports instructor in the 1993 romantic comedy film Pretty Princess, on Italian television debut. Bova had appeared in several leading roles in Italian romantic films over the years. He made his American film debut in Avenging Angelo in 2002. Bova appeared in Diane Lane's love interest in the comedy-drama film Under the Tuscan Sun in the following year. He co-starred opposite Sanaa Lathan in the science fiction film Alien vs. Predator (or dator): The Tourist (2010) and All Roads Lead to Rome, Sarah Jessica Parker's other notable American film credits include The Tourist (2010).
Bova appeared in ABC's comedy "About Brian" from 2006 to 2007, and in 2018 appeared as Pope Sixtus IV in the British-Italian period drama Medici. In the Telemundo/Netflix crime drama series La Reina del Survivo, he starred opposite Kate del Castillo in 2019.
