Smerek, a college footballer who played for Nevada before being undrafted just a year earlier, died last week. In seven seasons in Dallas, he played 69 games. Randy White, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and Cowboys legend, told The Dallas Morning News, 'He was a great teammate and a great person.'
