Career

Yglesias was born in New York in 1954, the son of novelist and journalist Jose Yglesias, as well as literary editor Helen. In 1980, he began writing screenplays. Fearless, directed by Peter Weir and starring Jeff Bridges, was critically acclaimed, and Rosie Perez was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Carla Rodrigo. The film had also been accepted into the 44th Berlin International Film Festival. Max Bridges' role as Max Klein is widely regarded as one of his best performances. Death and the Maiden, directed by Roman Polanski and based on Ariel Dorfman's script; Les Misérables, directed by Bille August and based on Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell's graphic novel, are among Yglesias' other screenplays. His film Dark Water is a remake of a J-horror film of the same name directed by Walter Salles and is a remake of a J-horror film of the same name.

In the mid-2000s, Yglesias switched to television writing when he adapted The Anatomy of Hope, a nonfiction book by Jerome Groopman about the psychological effects of illness for HBO. J. J. Abrams commanded the pilot, but the network refused to proceed with a full series order.

Yglesias worked on Aquarius, created by John McNamara and starring David Duchovny, and wrote five episodes of the two-season series from 2014 to 2016.
