True made her television debut in 1991 on the episode "Theo's Final Final" of The Cosby Show. Later, she moved to Los Angeles, and made appearances on Beverly Hills, 90210, Getting By, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Dream On.

After appearing in the horror film Embrace of the Vampire, she had a breakthrough role as Rochelle in the 1996 film The Craft, where she played a member of a teenage coven.
