Pritam Chakraborty Life

Pritam Chakraborty (born 14 June 1971), also known mononymously as Pritam, is an Indian music composer, instrumentalist, electronic guitar player, singer for Bollywood films.

He is regarded as a talented music director due to his versatility and range of music in various Indian films.

Early life

Pritam was born in a Bengali Brahmin family to Anuradha Chakraborty and Prabodh Chakraborty. He gained his early training in music from his father and learnt to play the guitar while he was still in school.

He went to St. James' School and has a bachelor's degree in geology from Presidency College. Pritam was associated with the non-partisan political platform Independents' Consolidation during his days at Presidency. Pritam joined FTII, Pune where he took up Sound Recording and Engineering in 1994.

Pritam formed a band with his presidency batchmates, called "Jotugriher Pakhi" for which, he used to play the guitar. They even have a cassette released to their credit at that time. Pritam joined a Bangla band, Chandrabindoo. Later Pritam started band Metro with James, Suhail, Soham and Eric during his film called Life in a... Metro.

Career

Chakraborty, who had completed his solid engineering course from FTII Pune, moved to Mumbai in 1997. He began writing ad jingles, where he met other budding musicians such as Shantanu Moitra, Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Gadhvi, and Jeet Gannguli. Pritam's jingles include brands such as Santro, Emami, McDonald's, Head & Shoulders, Thums Up, Limca, Complan, and assembled title tracks for TV serials such as Astitva, Kavyanjali, Ye Meri Life Hai, Remix, Kashmeer, Miilee, and Dil Kare.

Pritam got his first break with Tere Liye (released in December 2001). Despite the fact that the music was well-received, the film fell short of what was expected. The Jeet-Pritam duo composed music for Yash Raj Films' Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai in 2002. All of the songs from the film were chartbusters. Jeet decided to split soon after due to a misunderstanding, and the partners went on their separate ways.

Pritam's compositions were praised for their ability to blend Indian classical music with Western styles. His compositions for Gadhvi's second film Dhoom were a runaway hit. The title-track of Dhoom's two versions – Hindi (by Sunidhi Chauhan) and English (by Tata Young) – defied geographical barriers in pubs in the United Kingdom, USA, and East Asia – and earned him the Zee Cine Award for Best Track of the Year. Dhoom has been nominated twice.

He continued this series with compositions for films such as Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Race, Kismat Konnection, Jannat, Gangster, and Dhoom 2. His writings for Anurag Basu's Life in a... Metro received acclaim from readers. For the movie, Suhail Kaul, Sohu's pet name Chakraborty, Eric Pillai, and Bangladeshi singer James formed a band called Metro.

For the song "Mauja Hi Mauja" from Jab We Met by Imtiaz Ali, he received his second Zee Cine Award of the Year. Jab We Mets earned his first Apsara Award for Best Music Director. Love Aaj Kal and Cocktail, two more Imtiaz Ali films, were both critically and commercially successful.

His Sufi songs for the 2010 film Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai were extremely popular with the masses, and songs such as "Pee loon" and "Tum Jo Aaye" were declared chartbusters. He and Mahesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films produced a new generation of Crook, with the album "Mere Bina" receiving immediate fame. Rohit Shetty's Golmaal 3's foot-tapping numbers were also good. He started working with Salman Khan's Ready and Bodyguard in 2011. For Ramesh Sippy's 2011 film of the same name, he recreated the famous 1971 song "Dum Maro Dum." He wrote about Mausam, a Punjabi romance that had a hefty presence. With "Rabba Main To Mar Gaya Oye" a rage in Northern India, the songs were huge hits.

He wrote several hit songs for films in 2012, including Players, Agent Vinod, Jannat 2 and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Ferrari Ki Sawaari, where he worked with Rajkumar Hirani. He performed Barfi's music later this year. He has been honoured two Filmfare Awards for his work. Barfi is known as one of his most popular soundtrack albums. Race 2, Murder 3, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Dhoom 3, Dhoom 3 and Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara, his 100th film as a Music Director in Bollywood, was on his list by 2013. With compositions for Yaariyan, Shaadi Ke Side Effects & Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty. In 2014, he took a break.

In 2015, Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan & Phantom, and Rohit Shetty's Dilwale for which he was nominated for Filmfare awards, showcased his return to form with three hit albums: Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan & Phantom and Rohit Shetty's Dilwale. At the No. 2, the song "Gerua" from Dilwale actually opened at No. 1. The first Bollywood song to reach 100 million views on YouTube in the shortest time ever reached No. 1 position on the Radio Mirchi charts, becoming the first Bollywood song to reach 100 million views on YouTube in the shortest time ever. It has also ranked in top slots in countries such as Malaysia, Oman, Sri Lanka, and Bahrain. He appeared on the album "Itni Si Baat Hai" for Azhar as a guest composer and wrote the song "Itni Si Baat Hai"; the album's other composers were Amaal Mallik and Dj Chetas. He also composed the entire soundtracks of Dishoom, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Dangal. He created the soundtracks of Jagga Jasoobta, Raabta, alongside Sohrabuddin, Sourav Roy, and JAM8, as well as Diplo. He wrote songs for Kalank in 2019 and will oversee Brahmastra's music. 83 - The film is lined up for 2020.
