Pant, a wicketkeeper for India, was involved in a near-fatal car accident in December 2022 that required him to underwent multiple surgeries and kept him out of the 50-overs World Cup on home soil last year. Pant's Mercedes SUV north of New Delhi rammed into a roadblock, flipped over and caught fire. He sustained several injuries, including a fractured ligament in his right knee, wrist and ankle, and back abrasions. Since being in intensive rehabilitation, he has been in constant pain.
