According to studio estimates released on Sunday, Creed III set records for both the franchise and sports film genre in its first weekend, earning $58.7 million in box office revenues. Michael B. Jordan's much-anticipated motion picture appeared and directed in 4,007 North American locations, far beyond the film franchise's opening weekends in 2015 ($29 million) and 2018 ($35 million). The MGM film pits Jordan's eponymous character against his childhood friend Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors), as well as a cast including Tessa Thompson, Wood Harris, Phylicia Rashad, and Mila Davis-Kent.

From Wednesday and Thursday previews, Creed III earned $5.45 million. According to Deadline, almost three-fourths of the preview ticket sales for the Michael B. Jordan-starring film emerged from Thursday evening screenings, and it is forecast to gross about $40 million in the first weekend. In terms of total gross from preview showings, the third film in the Creed trilogy, which premiered in Los Angeles earlier this week, beats out its predecessors.
