Petra Maria Mede (born 7 March 1970) is a Swedish comedian, dancer, actress, and television presenter.

She was born in Stockholm and grew up in Gothenburg.

Mede is best known for her appearances in comedies and as a television presenter.

She is best known outside of Sweden for hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 and co-hosting in 2016.

Personal life

Mede is a polyglot who speaks Swedish, English, Spanish, Italian, and French. She has a daughter who was born in 2012 together with her old friend Mattias Günther. In 2015, it was announced that she and Günther had split.

Melodifestivalen 2009, where the Swedish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 was chosen and was named Sweden's best female comedian the same year, was voted Sweden's best female comedian.

After Loreen's victory in Baku last year, Petra hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden, in May 2013. TV commentators and journalists throughout Europe were highly lauded, and she appeared in a gap act during the Grand Final. In 1995, Mary Kennedy was Dublin's first solo presenter in over 20 years after she appeared solo in Dublin for the first time. However, in 1995, there was only one show, whereas there were three shows (two semi-finals and a final) in 2013, which were all hosted by Mede herself, although Eric Saade assisted with the final.

Mede and Graham Norton hosted the Eurovision's Greatest Hits show, which was broadcast in 27 countries on March 31st.

Mede was co-host of the first semi-final of the Swedish Melodifestivalen 2016 with Gina Dirawi at the Scandinavium in Gothenburg in 2016.

Mede and Mns Zelmerlöw will co-host the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 on December 14, 2015, SVT announced in a press conference on December 14, 2015. It was Mede's second time hosting the competition, with Katie Boyle and Jacqueline Joubert as the only ones to host the contest more than once.
