Penny Pritzker was born in Chicago in 1959, the niece of Sue (née Sandel) and Donald Pritzker. She is a member of the Pritzker family of Chicago, a wealthy and influential Jewish business family. Donald Pritzker was one of the Hyatt Hotels' co-founders. He and his family immigrated to Atherton, California, where the Hyatt Hotels' business began to grow.
