Personal life
Carvalho has been married three times. Mafalda Sachetti, the first marriage to Teresa Maria Lobato de Faria Sacchetti, gave rise to one child, singer Teresa Maria Lobato de Faria Sacchetti. Bernardo, ostensibly a singer named Agir, was born in Helena Isabel's second marriage. Paulo Nuno was born in Fernanda Borges' last marriage. He is currently in a collaboration with artist Susana Lemos, with whom he has two children.
Career
In 1965, Carvalho co-founded The Sheiks, a British band. He played the drums and sang. He also played a key role in many other important Portuguese bands of the 1960s, whether as a founder or a guest, including Fluido, Banda 4, and Thilo's Combo. The Sheiks were Portugal's answer to the Beatles. An authoritarian tyrant ruled Portugal during the 1960s. This band emerged as a result of Portugal's climate change and captured the national mood. The people wanted the Sheiks to be brighter and the Beatles were to be able to see. Summertime, Missing You, and Tell Me Bird were among the band's hits. Although the band reformed and performed in recent years, the Sheiks have reformed and performed in new years.
Carvalho performed in the Festival RTP da Canço and Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 and 1977 as a solo performer. It was his song, "E Depois Adeus," the Portuguese entry to the Eurovision Song Contest, which was used as the passcode at the start of the coup that deposed Portugal's military dictatorship (in what has become known as the Carnation Revolution), giving Carvalho a permanent place in his country's history. Carvalho received numerous international recognition awards in Bulgaria, Poland, and Belgium during the 1970s and 1980s, as well as being a regular participant in other music festivals in Chile, Argentina, and Spain.
Carvalho started identifying himself with Fado in 1985, deferring to Portugal's traditional music as globalization came to be seen as a threat to his homeland's cultural heritage; Desculpem qualquer coisinha was his first album after this change, and it remains his most commercially profitable venture; however, controversial) remains his most commercially lucrative venture. Many of Carvalho's songs were written by José Nisa, José Calvário and Ary dos Santos, as well as a Alda Lara's poem ("Me Negra"). He has performed with Fernando Tordo, Tozé Brito, Carlos Mendes, and Os Amigos, among other things, and he has appeared in duets with Brito, Tordo, and Dulce Pontes. Several hits albums have been released.
