Roy Hodgson once bizarrely sold the wrong player when he was manager of Liverpool. Hodgson's spell in charge of the Reds certainly didn't go to plan - he was appointed in July 2010 and departed in January 2011. One particular incident perhaps epitomises Hodgson's time at the club as he let the wrong player join Fulham as part of the deal that saw Paul Konchesky head to Anfield.

LEWIS STEELE: Danny and Nicky Cowley's new year kicked off with a bang, with the sociable pair given the Colchester United job. But 2024 has already seen the older brother being compelled to drop last year's health-kick resolution, given the fact of football's beast. Danny Cowley tells Mail Sport, 'This job is 24-7 and there's not enough time for sleep.' I walked every single day for at least an hour in 2023. I've been in this job for six days, and I've already had three days where I did absolutely no exercise. All my healthy habits are based on Gone.'
KATHRYN BATTE: Rehanne Skinner and Co. are getting a lot of cohesion, still no cohesive playing style, and West Ham's only two league wins are all year, something is clearly wrong

KATHRYN BATTE - WOMEN'S FOOTBALL CORRESPONDENT: A few days ago one of my coworkers asked me to estimate how many women's Super League games West Ham had won in 2023. I knew it wasn't many. I guess about five or six years ago. My low hopes were not high. This year, West Ham have won just two league games. Two of the two groups. One of the two was under former boss Paul Konchesky, the other under new manager Rehanne Skinner. With a 98th-minute equalizer against Leicester, which lifted them off the table, is at least a sign of hope. However, there has been little to celebrate about for the past 12 months.
After just one year in charge, West Ham boss Paul Konchesky resigns

Konchesky signed a two-year contract in 2022 and played in three of his first five games in charge. However, the Hammers went 10 games without a win during a stretch of poor form at the start of the year. After finishing the WSL season with a 3-3 draw against Tottenham on Saturday, Konchesky will step down as boss on Sunday morning. Despite the 42-year-old's having another year left on his contract, Konchesky's resignation was his decision, not the club's.
KATHRYN BATTE: How the women's game needs a project like Trent's to help players who fall by wayside
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 9, 2023
KATHRYN BATTE: There's a side to football that we don't talk about enough. Those were Trent Alexander-Arnold's words just over a week ago when he launched 'The After Academy,' a program to assist young players who had been released by football clubs. The conversation about the high number of candidates who do not make it as professionals and the importance of aftercare has been increasing in the men's game. Naturally, improvements are still needed, and Alexander-Arnold's plan would do a great deal to support those who are lost.
Are these famous figures from their TERRIBLE statues?

There are all sorts of ways to give a player the respect they so richly deserve. Every week we hear songs from the stands, ripples of applauses for moments of excellence, and even standing ovations if someone has done particularly well. Statues on the other hand are reserved for the rare few. The legends of the game. These only came after a period of sustained success, whether it was for a particular club or an international team.

After punching Aston Villa's Sarah Mayling during a WSL match last month, West Ham defender Hawa Cissoko was fined with a two-match suspension and a £200 fine. The incident occurred in the 91st minute, as the two teams came together and Cissoko launched a strike at Mayling. She was released a red card immediately, but both teams failed to control their players in the ensuing brawl, and the coaching staff of both teams were also involved. The FA announced Cissoko's suspension on Wednesday after an inquiry into the chaotic scenes, while also giving sanctions to the two teams and West Ham boss Paul Konchesky.
