Mahn Singh (right) has been the first British child to be trialled for a breakthrough new medication, teplizumab, which prevents the immune system from degenerating insulin-producing cells and causes type 1 diabetes. Mikayla Olsen (left) was recruited to the first, groundbreaking teplizumab trial in the United States in April 2016, when she was 14 years old. She has no signs of diabetes and does not require insulin six and a half years old.
