Row erupts after restaurant's 'outrageous demand' when customers brought in birthday cake - but some hospitality experts say it's fair

October 2, 2024
Many eateries in the UK are now adding a charge for customers who bring in their own birthday cake to restaurants - with hospitality pros defending 'absolutely fair' while others say it's 'disappointing and miserable'. Among those in favour of the charge is TV chef Asma Khan (left), who charged £25 to bring your own cake at her celeb-loved London restaurant Darjeeling Express. However Nick Gibson (right), the owner of the Drapers Arms in Islington, says it makes restaurateurs appear 'penny pinching' and 'misses the point of what we're here to do'.

Scores of Labour politicians as well as new groups from the Green Party and Reform are expected to start setting themselves up ahead of the King's Speech and the State Opening of Parliament on July 17. Some managed to arrive from across the UK smoothly, with Rosie Wrighting, the new Labour MP for Kettering, posting a selfie in front of Big Ben, saying: 'First day in the new office. I am looking forward to getting everything set up and being ready to serve the people of Kettering.' And the Green Party's quartet of new MPs posed for pictures on College Green. However some newly-elected Labour MPs criticised the reliability of train services after suffering disruption during journeys to take their seats in the House of Commons.

Lockbit hacker Andrew argues that the reason why the gang's website was down is because he became "very lazy" after five years of swimming in money, causing a new one to emerge on the dark web
www.dailymail.co.uk,
February 27, 2024
Last week, the shadowy Russian-linked company was the object of a new international law enforcement campaign that culminated in the detention of several of its employees and accusations. However, after being taken down by an international coalition led by the National Crime Agency, the cybercrime group has recovered services and is back in business. Lockbit first noticed issues early in the morning of February 19, according to a blog on the dark web, but then things went back to normal. 'I didn't pay much attention to it because after five years [sic] of swimming in money I became very lazy,' they wrote. Mikhail Pavlovich Matveev, a hacker who has a $10 million bounty on his head, is pictured on the left.

Last week, Lockbit, the world's most feared ransomware group, was the object of an unprecedented international law enforcement operation that culminated in some of its employees being arrested and charged. However, after being taken down by the National Crime Agency (also known as 'Britain's FBI') and other international allies, the cybercrime group claims to have restored its services and is back in operation. Lockbit, which accounts for up to a quarter of ransomware attacks, has caused a lot of commotion by hacking into computer networks and stealing personal information that the attackers will not get out unless the victims pay an extortionate ransom. The Russian-speaking hackers make money by delivering their services to fellow criminal organisations, including Royal Maild, the NHS, Porton Down, and hundreds of corporations both nationally and internationally.
Since locking the notorious ransomware group out of their own website, law enforcement has left a taunting post for cyber criminals

The National Crime Agency, also known as "Britain's FBI," and other international partners, broke into LockBit, which was used in a quarter of all ransomware attacks last year. A note (left) appeared on the Russian-based website stating that it was now under surveillance of law enforcement,' with departments releasing a tweet directly addressing the hackers on Monday evening. 'We have the source code, the victims' names, the amount of money extorted, the chats, and much more.' We may be in touch with you shortly.' Have a good day.' Lockbit has wreaked havoc on computer networks and looting confidential information, which it then threatens to release unless the victims pay an extortionate ransom. The Russian-speaking hackers profit from selling their services to fellow criminal organisations, including Royal Mail, the NHS, Porton Down, a nuclear submarine base, and hundreds of companies in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. So far, five people have been arrested, including two Russians, Mikhail Vasiliev, who is being detained in Canada, and Ruslan Magomedovich Astamirov, who is based in the United States, five people have been arrested. Artur Sungatov, Ivan Kondratyev, and Mikhail Pavlovich Matveev are among the three remaining three people on the run. Visitors to its website now have a note (left) announcing that it is now under surveillance of The National Crime Agency, which has attacked the site as part of a multinational police force with the FBI, Europol, and more than a dozen other international police departments.
Analysis of White Christmas: Who needs snow for this holiday season of a show, writes PATRICK MARMION
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 22, 2023
According to the Met Office, the majority of us have at least another 12 months of anticipating a white Christmas. Despite this year's nascent production of Irving Berlin's yuletide warmers in Sheffield, we still have reasons to be optimistic this year. Don't worry that it's quick. This is a musical with a decidedly sketchy plot that will quickly devolve into slush. In Paul Foster's twinkle-toed production, however, the tale's shortcomings are swept aside. As our ex-U.S. Army variety act Bob and Phil (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye in the film version) greet showgirl sisters Judy and Betty and then follow them to an unseasonably hot, snow-free Vermont for Christmas. Here, the boys explore Hank Waverly, the boy's beloved but adamant WWII general, and how to save his crumbling ski resort by staging a full-scale Broadway beano. Count Your Blessings is shamelessly saccharine, while other numbers seem to be Berlin's odds and ends. But who cares when the completely extraneous I Love A Piano cues a huge, tumultuous full-company tap dance with everyone dressed like keyboards?

The ashes of up to 1000 members of the Springval Buddhist community were reportedly kept inside the temple.
After his course was blocked by 150 meters, Eilish McColgan's 10,000 meters British record is STUCK OFF
www.dailymail.co.uk,

After finding that the route she ran was 150 meters short, Eilish McColgan's 10,000 meters British record at the Great Scottish Run has been scrapped. The 31-year-old runner set new European records when she blitzed the race in 30 minutes 18 seconds earlier this month, smashing her own European record. The Great Run Company has since found that the landmark was invalidated due to human error. The Great Run Company's Paul Foster said, 'We have been in contact with Eilish to explain and apologize,' and 'We have been in contact with them.' McColgan was seen crossing the line earlier this month (left) and celebrating her British record on holiday in the Seychelles (right).
