Are sharks getting hungrier for humans? This summer, experts advise that you should be extra cautious in the water

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 19, 2023
Following high-profile deaths in recent years, MailOnline has spoken to experts to see if shark attacks are really on the rise. (left) A tiger shark mauled a 23-year-old Russian man to death (Galeocerdo cuvier, top right), just last month. Shark attacks are extremely rare - you're more likely to be struck by lightning - but the majority of them happen in the United States, particularly in waters surrounding the state of Florida (bottom right).

Hundreds of sharks mysteriously wash up on a British beach, leaving marine scientists baffled

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 8, 2023
On the shores of Prestatyn, North Wales, nearly 30 starry smooth-hound sharks were discovered on Tuesday morning. The creatures were found in photos shared online and were often referred to as gummy sharks. Gem Simmons, a marine expert, told the BBC that she had attempted to obtain samples from the animals, but that they had unfortunately 'fallen prey to herring gulls.'

A murderer who live-streamed battering his aunt's husband to death has been sentenced to life in prison for life

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 19, 2023
On social media, a crazed thug who beat his aunt's aunt to death in a'sadistic' attack has been sentenced to life in prison. During a two-hour riot in Nottingham city centre, Declan O'Donnell, 24, kicked, punched, and stamped on 63-year-old Paul Cox. On February 10 last year, he called the police after posting harrowing footage of the horrific assault on Facebook and Instagram. A court heard how his followers begged for him to end the attack, with one saying, 'Stop, you are killing him.' Despite O'Donnell's aunt, who was inside the house at the time, asking him to avoid, Mr Cox was left with multiple fractures and internal bleeding. Mr Cox was admitted by ambulance crews at his Mansfield Road flat and taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre, where he died nine days later.
