Annie Ernaux, a French author, has been praised for her collection of books on female sexuality, culture, and women's lives. The 82-year-old French author is one of her country's most popular writers, focusing on "the courage and forensic acuity" with which she uncovers "the origins, estrangement, and collective memory constraints. She is the first French laureate since Patrick Modiano in 2014 and the 16th French Nobel Laureate. Ernaux had used the term "an ethnologist of herself" rather than a fiction writer, according to Anders Olsson, chairman of the Nobel literature committee.
