Two 'professional' cashpoint ram-raiders who carried out a string of'smash and grabs' across Kent have been sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison. Between November 19, 2019 and January 2021, the criminals caused more than £1.5 million worth of thefts and took a total of £306,895 in thefts. Anthony Pemberthy, 44, and Stephen Davenport, 61, were both members of a cartel that 'extensively planned' the attacks, reportedly using stolen JCB diggers to tear out the supermarket and service station ATMs, according to a court. The cashpoints would then be carried just a few miles away in stolen flat-bed trucks and then doused with accelerant or fire extinguisher spray to destroy any forensic evidence. Six such raids were carried out between November 14, 2019 and March 1 last year, four of which were successful.
