Did Bruno Guimaraes injure himself and why are so many players obsessed with knee-slide celebrations?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 9, 2024
CHRIS WHEELER: Despite the inherent danger of serious injury or shame, several players love the flamboyant goal celebrations. The knee joint has deteriorated. Bruno Fernandes, the new Premier League star to play it at Old Trafford on Sunday, after scoring an impressive goal for Manchester United from the centre circle in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool. Fernandes stopped two tramlines in the pristine turf as he slid for several yards on his knees and then returned to his feet in a single smooth motion as he turned around to the corner flag. Out of ten, eight out of ten.

Manchester City came from behind to beat West Ham 3-1 and maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season. The Hammers, who have started the season well themselves, took the lead in the 36th minute thanks to James Ward-Prowse. However, City responded in the second half as Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, and Erling Haaland all discovered the net.

ten of Martin Tyler's greatest moments include everything from AGUERROO to Vardy and Gerrard

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 17, 2023
Martin Tyler has become one of modern football commentary's most iconic figures, narrating some of the most exciting moments in a club game. So the news that he was being cut from Sky Sports for cost-cutting reasons brought home how important the 77-year-old has been to football on Saturday. This season was the first time he had missed a Premier League trophy lift in 20 years, bowing out of the Manchester City coverage due to a sore throat. His work has been lauded by fans and fellow media professionals since joining Sky in 1990. In April 2003, he was named Premier League Commentator of The Decade, and he's now retired for two decades.

Following Aleksandar Mitrovic's suspension, the ten longest suspensions in Premier League history have been suspended

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 4, 2023
Since being banned from eight games for attacking referee Chris Kavanagh in Fulham's FA Cup transfer to Manchester United last month, Aleksandar Mitrovic has received one of the longest sentences in Premier League history. The normal three-match ban has been extended to eight games, but the FA is planning to appeal the suspension, claiming that the Serbian striker will receive an even greater punishment. Mitrovic played in Fulham's 2-1 loss at Bournemouth, and the earliest he'll return is against Southampton on May 13 - with two games remaining after that.

MAN United's best interest in Fulham's Mitrovich is a man of the Red-card controversy

Aleksandar Mitrovic (pictured) was suspended from his team's 3-1 FA Cup loss to Manchester United last week after barging into official Chris Kavanagh (right), who inevitably gave him his marching orders. According to the Daily Star, the 28-year-old's conducts will not only cost him a potential fine, but also a huge move to United. Mitrovic, who has scored in 25 appearances in all competitions this season, was on a summer shortlist for Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag (inset), with the club keen to improve up front, at least until his time of madness.

In Man United's loss to Liverpool, Bruno Fernandes avoids punishment for assistant referee pushes

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 6, 2023
During Manchester United's 7-0 beating by Liverpool, Bruno Fernandes was released without prison for pushing a linesman. On Sunday, United captain John Kerry nudged the official near to the touchline during the second half of Anfield, prompting calls for the incident to be investigated. However, the FA has confirmed that no action will be taken against Fernandes because it was not seen by referee Andy Madley and his associates and was not included in their study.

CHRIS SUTTON: Bruno Fernandes acted like a petulant child against Liverpool

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 5, 2023
Bruno Fernandes yelled at the referee's assistant. When his nose had been stuck in the chest by Ibrahima Konate, he behaved as if his nose had burst out. He swung a penalty from Alisson and lost. When beaten, he refused to track Stefan Bajcetic. When Erik ten Hag did not replace him, he waved his arms in the air. Bruno Fernandes, one of the worst performances we've seen from a Premier League player, certainly not a captain. At Anfield, the Incredible Sulk had a rocky run. This was nothing academic. It was more appropriate for a petulant child, and the pressure on the assistant should have resulted in a ban, no ifs and buts.

Derby County 0-2 West Ham: Antonio and Bowen strike as Hammers book fifth-round trip to Man United

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 30, 2023
TOM COLLOMOSSE AT PRIDE PARK: After this routine victory that sparked an enthralling fifth-round tie at Old Trafford, West Ham will hope to summon the spirit of Paolo Di Canio when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup. The West Ham have failed to beat United in four attempts after Di Canio's strike in January 2001 gave West Ham a historic victory at the Theatre of Dreams. Goals in either half from Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio booked West Ham's spot in the last 16, and even though the team will fly to United as underdogs, Erik ten Hag's men will give them hope.

Willy Gnonto's scissor-kick for Leeds conjured up memories of Paulo Di Canio - but whose was better?

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 19, 2023
KIERAN GILL: Chances are you've been there. I know I have. Seven-a-side. In behind the last defender, the big lump at the back has played a good job. This is a lovely picture. Lovely music. So you go for the volley. Be courteous not to. The far corner is straight, but the flapper in goal would never stop it. You get in touch with the ball. That's half of the fight. But where is it going? Ah, yes, to the parking garage. To whoever's windscreen it was, apologies. Despite this, Wilfried Gnonto of Leeds was not injured. Just like his fellow Italian Paolo Di Canio against Wimbledon in 2000, the 19-year-old forward defied the odds to smash the ball into Cardiff's goal. The two spectacular attacks were so similar that it resulted in a discussion about who had the higher score. Gnonto was not even born when Di Canio scored his scissor-kick, but he was still asking that question later. 'I think he was the best,' he replied.

Fans compare Gnonto's stunning volley for Leeds to Di Canio's famous goal for West Ham

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 18, 2023
Wilfried Gnonto, a Leeds winger, scored a spectacular scissor-kick volley to put his side up against Cardiff in their FA Cup replay, with fans comparing his attack to a famous Paolo Di Canio goal for West Ham in 2000. Leeds threwled Cardiff right from the game, resulting in a 2-2 draw in the first meeting between the two teams, and Rodrigo floated an exciting route to the back post. With the ball going over the head of a defender, Gnonto kept his eye off the ball and volleyed past the helpless Jak Alnwick with both feet off the ground.

The ghosts of Christmas photographs from previous years... football's most awkward holiday snaps

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 24, 2022
For millennial football fans, seeing famous football stars flooded their social media pages with festive photos has been a modern trend. However, footballers didn't have the same luxurious store three decades ago, and they had to find other ways to broadcast their Christmas cheer. Fortunately, there was always a willing photographer on hand to capture these moments, but unfortunately looking back at these images, which were often used in magazines and advertisements, haven't necessarily been appropriate for the familiar faces on display. The Christmas clock is winding down, and we take a look at some of Christmas pictures from the past.

Henrik Pederson, a former Bolton striker, serves pints to West Ham supporters in Silkeborg's bar

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 15, 2022
Fans of West Ham were treated to free beers ahead of their team's Europa League Conference match against Danish side Silkeborg. Officials from the Danish club were seen giving out beers to the traveling public who were purchasing their match tickets outside JYSK Park prior to the 8 p.m. game. The gesture of kindness was lauded by the supporters, with supporter Aaron Hinton tweeting a snapshot of the moment and hailing it as 'unbelievable' from Silkeborg.
