After beating New Zealand 4-0 in Mendoza on Tuesday, the United States advanced to the Under-20 World Cup quarterfinals in a convincing manner without conceding yet. The Americans dominated the round-of-16 match without a single threat from the New Zealanders, but the New Zealanders failed to show it on the scoreboard. Team USA defeated Ecuador 1-0 in the Under-20 World Cup opener in San Juan, Argentina, on Saturday thanks to Jonathan Gomez's injury-time blast. Owen Wolff, a 19-year-old striker, fired from just outside the box, over goalkeeper Gilmar Napa, to the upper-right corner of the net. A minute later, the final whistle was released.
