Oskar Alexander Career

Education and career

Alexander studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1894 to 1899, under Franz Rumpler and Franz von Matsch. He also worked at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he worked under Eugène Carrière and James Abbott McNeill Whistler. Alexander lived an interesting life in Paris despite being largely homeless. He slept in the corner of the drawing hall at first. Alexander met Émile Zola, who portrayed himself in a Parisian cafe when he was in Paris. Alexander Wilde was also portrayed by him.

He also spent time in Paris with Antun Gustav Mato, who shared a room with Alexander. He co-founded the "Association of Croatian Artists" with Vlaho Bukovac, Viktor Kovai, and others. He exhibited his work in Paris and Munich in 1900. Alexander de Boer vs. Hagenbund was a prominent member from 1908 to 1939. Professor of Fine Arts in 1912, the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia provincial government proclaimed him Professor of Fine Arts. Alexander was friends with Croatian politician and royal commissioner Slavko Cuvaj.

Alexander was a war painter, outlining scenes on the battlefield, which he later transferred to canvas in World War I. He was awarded the medal from Franz Joseph I of Austria because of this. Among many, Alexander portrayed Engelbert Dollfuss, Vladko Maek, and Josip Broz Tito when he visited his sister in Samobor, 1948. Alexander Löhr opened the exhibition on May 12, 1937 in Vienna, Austria.
