Life and career

Clark was born Richard Mardirosian, the son of Afro (née Karahos) and Matthew Mardirosian. He is of Armenian origins. Tom Mardirosian, his brother, is also an actor. Clark made several appearances in film and television, including as Mr. Small in the 1970 film They Might Be Giants and in the 1976 remake of A Star Is Born). On the NBC drama St. John Doe #6 was two of his best-known TV characters. On The Bob Newhart Show, Elsewhere, a lovable and amusing psychiatrist, and Mr. Herd, a psychologist for psychologist Bob Hartley, a long-running CBS situation comedy. In the original pilot of the series Good Morning Miss Bliss, Mr. Belding appeared but was later replaced by Dennis Haskins.

Clark appeared on The Golden Girls as Roger Barton, as the man who later became Santa Claus in Ernest Saves Christmas. In the 1996 animated Christmas in Cartoontown, he portrayed his Santa role again.

Clark appeared on two episodes of M*A*S*H, Episode 16 "38 Across" as Hawkeye's college buddy and now a Navy Doctor on board an aircraft carrier off the coast of Korea, as well as a whiz at crossword puzzles. When he gets stuck on the final word to end a puzzle, Hawkeye calls him by phone, but MASH's companion discovers there is no emergency. He lands in the company of a Naval medical officer (Dick O'Neill), only to find the real reason for the call. In Season 6, Episode 20 "Mail Call Three") as a second Captain Benjamin Pierce (an Infantry Officer), where every Captain is mistakenly receiving each Captain's mail.

Clark appeared on Barney Miller in six episodes.

A viral video of a teenage driving his Ford Fiesta into a lorry at a 100 mph speed after a police chase has surfaced, as he was not banned from jail. Oliver Clark, 19, of Grimsby, refused to stop for police in Cleethorpes last July, sparking a chase along the A180 eastbound to Barnetby last July. The adolescent admitted to reckless driving and was sentenced to 12 months in jail – a two-year suspension. He was in a coma for four days as a result of the high-impact crash, and he is still recovering from his injury.
