Early life and education
Mercy Amoah, also known as Ohemaa Mercy, was born in Weija, Accra, to Fantis parents, Mr and Mrs Amoah, from Abakrapa and Elmina respectively. She spent the bulk of her youth in Koforidua. At St. Peter's Anglican Primary School, Koforidua, and secondary education at Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua, Ohemaa Mercy undertook her primary education. She obtained her Teachers Certificate (A) at the S.D.A Teachers Training College in Asokore, Koforidua.
Music career
In the latter part of November 2004, Ohemaa Mercy released her first album. The album, entitled Adamfo Papa, received a lot of airplay since its debut, bringing Ohemaa into the limelight. She received seven nominations for the 2006 Ghana Music Awards, but she did not win any of the prizes. She then received the Gospel Music Awards' Discovery of the Year award the year after.
Edin Jesus, the gospel minister's second album, came out in 2007. Six months after releasing the second album, Ohemaa Mercy became the year's best-selling album.
The Edin Jesus album received ten awards for the 2008 Ghana Music Awards. This was the most nominations received so far in the awards program's history. At the festival, she received three accolades: Gospel Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year, and Gospel Album of the Year. She received a Grand Medal in the same year as the ex-President of Ghana, John Kufuor, was given a Grand Prize during the National Honours Award.
In 2010-11, Ohemaa released Wobeye Kese, her third album, which also topped all major chat shows in the country.
This album received four accolades at the 2014 Ghana Music Awards four months after its release.
She was named in the United States as the Best Artist of the Year and the Year-Canada Artist of the Year-Canada was a woman who lived in Canada. In London, she was nominated for the Best Female Artiste West Africa the same year. With Ote Me Mu ft MOG music, Ohemaa Mercy has performed on several major platforms, not just for her love of her music but also for her stage appearances.
