Nobuo Uematsu Life

Nobuo Uematsu (born March 21, 1959) is a Japanese video game designer best known for scoring the bulk of the Final Fantasy series by Square Enix.

He is regarded as one of the most well-known game developers in the video game industry.

He has been referred to as "Beethoven of video games music" five times in the annual Classic FM Hall of Fame. Uematsu, a self-taught musician, began playing the piano at the age of 12, with English singer-songwriter Elton John as his most prominent influence.

Uematsu appeared on Square in 1986, where he first met Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.

The two later collaborated on many games at the company, most notably in the Final Fantasy series.

After nearly two decades with Square, Uematsu left in 2004 to start his own production firm, which also included the Dog Ear Records music label.

He has since created music for other games, including those produced by Square Enix and Sakayama's development studio, Mistwalker. Many soundtracks and arranged albums of Uematsu's game scores have been released.

Various Final Fantasy concerts have featured pieces from his video game performances, where he has performed with Grammy Award-winning conductor Arnie Roth on several of these performances.

He appeared in a hard rock band with Square Enix friends Kenichiro Fukui and Tsuyo Sekito, in which he performed electronic organ and other keyboards from 2002 to 2010.

The band performed various arranged rock versions of Uematsu's Final Fantasy pieces.

He has since appeared with Earthbound Papas, which he formed as the successor to the Black Mages in 2011.

Personal life

Uematsu and his partner, Reiko, whom he met during college, and their beagle, Pao, now live in Tokyo, Japan. In Yamanakako, Yamanashi, they have a summer cabin. He likes watching professional wrestling, drinking beer, and bicycling in his spare time. When he was younger, Uematsu said he initially wanted to become a professional wrestler, but that it wasn't a career aspiration.
