EXCLUSIVE: Furious locals have slammed plans to build a huge skyscraper (pictured) over a beautiful Grade II-listed former hospital. Historic England dubbed 80 Broad Street, in Birmingham, a 'dignified example of polite, late-Georgian architecture'. Yet even though the building is beloved by people living in the area and protected from demolition by its listed status, a top architecture firm plans to plonk a 42-storey tower block on top of it using stilts. Architecture bosses referred to it as simply an 'under-utilised brownfield land' and claimed the high-rise would lead to 'extensive community and public benefits to the area'. Yet incredulous locals told MailOnline the plans were 'gross' and the skyscraper would be 'atrocious' and an 'eyesore' that would 'destroy the character of the building'.
